This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. [He isn't keen on the thought of going off-campus. The odd part is it isn't the hypothetical death match that has him worried, it's how other people will react to him. He spent two years in a heavily anti-mutant place and he doesn't like even considering using his abilities off campus lest someone see his eyes change colour and realize he's a mutant. Vriska's mutation is more physical than his as well, it could cause trouble for the both of them.]

Pretty sure America outlawed death matches a few years ago.

[She rolls her eye and shakes her head.]

You worry too fucking much. And you're right, they have but that doesn't stop people.

[Another eyeroll as she snuffs out her cig.] At least you're able to hide it. It's just your eyes. I have to go to great lengths to cover up if I want to go out.

[She shrugs as she pulls out a thing of mints, popping on in her mouth before offering it Merlin.] I've never tried. It's possible but I have hard enough time doing the whole mental pushing things as is.

[he takes one and nods in thanks]

Knowing my luck I'd melt the person's brain. [She gives a little laugh and tucks the tin of mints away.]

[he just laughs back, not too sure how to respond to that, he's not sure how one actually practices mind control.]

[Very carefully at usually under the watchful eye of another teacher. Which is no fun in her book.]

So, where exactly are you from and how did you end up here?

I'm from a small town in England that no one has ever heard of, I could move things since before I could speak and while my town wasn't extremely anti-mutant, I hid my abilities. When mum found out that my best friend Will knew about my powers she panicked and sent me to the city [which was nicknamed Camelot and boy did he get grief over that] to study with one of her old friends. The city was extremely anti-mutant. Gaius realized what I was doing wasn't telekinesis but what he called molecular kinesis and thought I could get more help here. So here I am.

[normally he wouldn't have just given that all away so easily, but she asked and he started thinking about it so it was easier to just tell her]

[She couldn't help but snicker.] I see.

[She fell silent for a few moments as she tried to decide just how much to tell.] Bangladesh, lived there until I was eight and then a really nice man took me away and brought me here. Well, to the area, not the school. But he died and then I ended up here.

[he doesn't blame her for not giving a lot away]

[They'd be there a while if she told him everything. So the short version that doesn't involve all the gory details is best.

That doesn't make it easier.

Maybe not. But when you see people die more often than anyone probably should you get used to it.

[he shakes his head] That's not anything anyone should get used to, no matter how much death you see.

Well...I'm pretty used to it.

I think you pretend to be used to it because it's easier, like I pretend to not be bothered by the anti-mutant things people said back home.

[There's a low growl and the bearing of fangs from her but she says nothing. Once again he's pretty much hit the nail on the head. Here she'd hoped she wasn't so transparent but apparently she is.]

[they may have very different backgrounds but he understands]

[he turns to her with the barest hint of a smile]

Fangs too? I'm expecting a tail next?
