This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. I'm from a small town in England that no one has ever heard of, I could move things since before I could speak and while my town wasn't extremely anti-mutant, I hid my abilities. When mum found out that my best friend Will knew about my powers she panicked and sent me to the city [which was nicknamed Camelot and boy did he get grief over that] to study with one of her old friends. The city was extremely anti-mutant. Gaius realized what I was doing wasn't telekinesis but what he called molecular kinesis and thought I could get more help here. So here I am.

[normally he wouldn't have just given that all away so easily, but she asked and he started thinking about it so it was easier to just tell her]

You?

[She couldn't help but snicker.] I see.

[She fell silent for a few moments as she tried to decide just how much to tell.] Bangladesh, lived there until I was eight and then a really nice man took me away and brought me here. Well, to the area, not the school. But he died and then I ended up here.

[he doesn't blame her for not giving a lot away]

Sorry for your loss.

[They'd be there a while if she told him everything. So the short version that doesn't involve all the gory details is best.

She shrugs.]

Everyone dies eventually.

That doesn't make it easier.

Maybe not. But when you see people die more often than anyone probably should you get used to it.

[he shakes his head] That's not anything anyone should get used to, no matter how much death you see.

Well...I'm pretty used to it.

I think you pretend to be used to it because it's easier, like I pretend to not be bothered by the anti-mutant things people said back home.

[There's a low growl and the bearing of fangs from her but she says nothing. Once again he's pretty much hit the nail on the head. Here she'd hoped she wasn't so transparent but apparently she is.]

[they may have very different backgrounds but he understands]

[he turns to her with the barest hint of a smile]

Fangs too? I'm expecting a tail next?

[if it wasn't impolite to just lean over and check out a girl's ass, he would so be doing that]

[She gives an amused huff and shakes her head.] No. But I did have horns.

[he laughs and just pictures her with reindeer antlers]

[She reaches over and smacks him in the back of the head.]

I don't really remember what they looked like but I know it wasn't that.

[he shakes his head and laughs louder]

They totally were.

Were not! If I had pictures to prove otherwise I would show you but I know for a fucking fact they weren't reindeer antlers!

Only because they didn't finish growing! Babies can't lift their head and full reindeer antlers.

They weren't antlers! And they weren't going to become antlers!

[he wants to say that she doesn't know that, but there must be a reason why she used to have horns and now she doesn't, so he doesn't push that anymore]

Bull horns? Ram horns? Devil horns?

I don't remember okay. [They were cut off by anti-mutant assholes. But since he's not outright asking she's not saying.]

They probably would have been awesome, but maybe it's better you don't have them, makes you less of a target. [there's a sad note to that]

[There's a bit of a glare directed at him.] Probably.

[he tries give her a reassuring smile, and if that doesn't work he recalls all the times Arthur has hit him for saying something dumb or at the wrong time]

[Vriska would do the same, only she would do it even if was only something he's thinking. And right now she kind of has to laugh.]

[his smile becomes more genuine]
