you know what I'm sayin'?
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before applying, and to see if things "click". Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.
Rin Okumura || Blue Exorcist
[There's quite a bit of static and rustling around at first. Like Rin doesn't really know what he's doing, which is the case. He's completely hopeless when it comes to technology.]
This thing workin' right? People can hear me? [He clears his throat.]
Students of Xavier's this is resident overlord spe-- [Oh he can't even finish. He thinks he's too funny with his introduction. So he's just going to laugh for a little while.]
Okay...okay. Uh, anyway. I'm Rin and I've actually been here a while but I can never figure out these computers so hey. Sup. Also to that kid who's book I accidentally set on fire earlier today, sorry. M'bad.
[Prose]
Rin normally stuck to himself. He had always been kind of a loner before coming to the school and even after that remained the same. For the first year or so he was just too dangerous around others. His flames were set off by the tiniest provocation. Luckily he'd been learning control. He rarely flared up when angered anymore. It really took a lot to get him to go all blue flames on someone.
But sometimes it still happened. Sometimes his concentration would lapse and something as simple as a sneeze would cause him to set something on fire. And at that moment he was having quite the sneezing fit.

Soren (said reader) stares at the blue fire for a moment with little in the way of surprise, and with a vague gesture blows it out with his own wind powers. Then with a 'thud' closes the heavy tome and turns to look at Rin.
If distaste could have a pure undiluted look he'd be getting it now.

He shoved his hands into his pockets and pulled them inside out. Nothing but lint...

He seemed to almost smirk. "People who can't control their powers shouldn't be allowed out in public. You're just another example as to why."
no subject
"Fuck you! My powers are controlled but sometimes a sneeze sets them off."
no subject
"...as for 'sometimes'... sometimes a man trips while cleaning his gun and kills his children. You're not any more special then any other idiot refusing to accept responsibility for how dangerous they are."
no subject
"That's like comparing apples to oranges! My fire isn't even that dangerous, not unless I'm angry. I'm sure you damn expensive book is just fine, maybe only a little charred. Still readable!" What was wrong with this guy?! Did he want a fight?
no subject
"And when you get angry? What then?"
no subject
"Then if I let it out I could hurt someone. But I've learned to control that." Although he still hadn't controlled the fiery aura that would start to envelope his body when angered. While it didn't do anything but protect him and look intimidating it was still worrisome. And that's what was happening now.

"Were you the one who made that blue fire?"
no subject
After that was taken care of he looked back at the other boy. "Yeah, it was me." He smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head.

"That was pretty awesome! How did you get them to be that blue?"

He huffs, almost disappointed at the possibility of seeing (and possibly tasting) a whole variety of fires. He pauses after that thought, taking a moment to look Rin over, as if appraising him. After a moment, he leans in, his tone and manner almost serious.
"How do blue flames taste?"
no subject
The sudden violation of space left Rin leaning away a bit. And the question, well it pretty much got the most what the fuck face he could muster. "Taste? Like?" Who the hell eats fire?!
no subject
The reaction wasn't what he was expecting at all. The screwed up look, the shift in distance between them, and the change in tone all cause Natsu to blink curiously for a moment. He had always lacked a certain level of tact, but having met another fire user, however different their flames may have been, he seemed to let his excitement get the better of him.
"Haven't you ever eaten fire before?"
no subject
"No!"
no subject
"Tch. You're a strange one, aren't you?"

"What the hell are you talking about? Of course I eat fire. Why else would I ask how blue flames tasted?"

Isn't Rin lucky that Yukari was present to save him from committing a random act of arson? Of course, to do that, she had to manifest one of her gaps and push his face into it from behind, but it wouldn't be so bad.
...this means that, until she feels his head stop jerking to and fro, he'll find that the rest of his body is back with her, but his head is through a portal that has him staring at the sky starting a few feet above the roof of the same building they are in.
Once that's done, she pulls him back inside with her hand and then the abyss-like portal closes up right after. It was a strain to hold it open that long, but she hides it well.
"My goodness, what a show! You wouldn't be coming down with something like a 'dragon flu', would you?"
