This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

[A. Action]
Waaaaait! Don't kill it!

[Maybe that call is directed at you, or maybe you're just an observer. (The latter is just as likely, considering people three hallways down just heard her, and not even the ones with enhanced hearing.) Either way, the source of this commotion is apparently a tiny blonde girl, her cute ponytail bobbing as she dives in front of...a spider.]

[Oh. It's that weird kid that has bugs crawling around in her hair half the time. That explains everything.]

[B. Prose]
Yamame tried to swallow her disappointment with the Xavier Institute, and, for the most part, it was easy to do so. She was all smiles and optimism to anyone that came within twenty feet of her, and for the most part that behavior was genuine, but... She was disappointed nonetheless. So many people here seemed so concerned with looking like normal humans. It wasn't at all like being among the Morlocks, and she hadn't seen anyone who could pass for a youkai.

She saw no reason to alter her behavior to match, though, so she had probably already developed at reputation for being weird and even eerie. She didn't care. She was the same as always, spiders crawling in her clothes and hair as she climbed atop whatever would give her the best vantage point.

Which, in this case, happened to be a bookshelf in the library.

"Hey, what are you reading?"

She didn't really care much about rules about talking in the library, either.

You'd think with powers like hers, Parsee would have learned to detect the presence of others well enough to not be startled. But Yamame, little Yamame, had a talent for this kind of thing. With a yelp, Parsee shot a glare back at her little spider friend.

"None of your business!"

She sure did. And, unfortunately for Parsee, another talent she had was not being easily discouraged.

"Come on, if you say it like that you'll just make people even more curious!" She leaned forward from her perch, craning her neck to try to peek at the pages. Her position seemed precarious, but she wouldn't be much of a gymnast if she didn't have good balance. "Is it something bad?"

"It's something SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE!" Parsee snapped, trying desperately to hide the book she had.

"Wow, you're really touchy today," she said, not sounding the least bit surprised or bothered. Really, her tone made it sound more like a comment on the weather than anything. She stopped trying to peek at the book quite so blatantly, though she didn't straighten up at all, leaving her in an odd position where she half-hung off the top of the bookshelf. "Is it really that embarrassing?"

"Why do you need to know? Go find Yuugi and bug her, alright?" Parsee huffed, quickly shutting the book and stuffing it in her bag before Yamame could catch any glimpse of it.

"I don't need to know. I'm just curious."

That was when she hoped down from her perch, landing firmly and gracefully beside Parsee. If she had intended to try to escape, it seemed Yamame had plans to follow.

"You're being re-e-eally suspicious, though. If you wanted to hide it so badly, why not just lie to me?"

"I suck at lying," Parsee sighed. At least it was in her satchel now. No risk of Yamame snatching it away... or so she thought, anyways. She could just dodge questions for however long the spider girl remained interested. Right... just great.

"Hm... Okay! How about you tell me why you don't want me to know instead? And nothing like, 'It's none of your business!'" She managed a pretty decent mimicry of Parsee's tone. "That's not a real answer, so it doesn't count."

Though, knowing Yamame, this would just turn into a game of 20 Questions...

[Ayaka had been about to stomp on the aforementioned spider... up until that weird bug girl suddenly dived in the way]

Ugh...

[Well, if she couldn't stomp on the spider, she might as well plant her foot on one of those bugs she could see scurrying about on the disgusting (in her opinion, anyway) blonde]

Hey— What are you doing?!

[She does an admirable job of grabbing hold of Ayaka's foot, the visible spiders promptly scurrying out of the way, under the collar and cuffs of her shirt or into her hair. At the moment, at least, Yamame is more surprised than angry or upset.]

Those are— Leave them alone!

I'm trying to do you a favor.

[She normally didn't do favors for anybody, but since she her foot had already been in position, well...]

[But now that the spider girl was holding onto her foot, she pulled back and attempted to extract it from the blonde's grasp]

[Yamame lets her go. She lets her go so hard she shoves her back as she does so, quickly straightening up again. She isn't very tall at all, and she's obviously angry.]

If you want to do me a favor, go catch me a few grasshoppers and treat my friends to lunch for what you just tried to do.

[Ayaka stumbled back a bit, almost falling over but managing to catch her balance]

Your friends? You should do yourself a favor and visit pest control, then maybe you could find some real friends!

[As if you had many friends with your attitude, Ayaka]

[Ugh, she is so tempted to "curse" her right now...]

You don't know anything. Maybe you should try actually having friends before you start talking about who and what other people call theirs.

That-[Even if Yamame had a point, she wasn't going to admit to that]

[Also, still, ew spider friends?]

I still know what is a friend better than you do.

You don't know anything at all!

[She glares like she's trying to burn a hole through Ayaka. Which, actually, is not inaccurate. She just does her burning with fevers instead of a fire. If she's going to say things like that, then she really will make her sick...!]

Ack, maybe I should change her mutant power so she's affected by things like that @_@;

The sudden voice made Venom shudder. His feathery appendages twitched and flapped rather angrily before settling against his back. The library was his refuge, his home away from his dorm room and roommate. And this particular corner was undiscovered by most of the students.

That is, until now. He tried to bury his face in his book.

"Please keep it down."

That reply didn't seem to discourage her at all. Rather than leaving him to himself, she jumped down from the shelf she had been crouching on to get closer. If he was at a table, she was now standing on it, and if he wasn't she was doing something equally obnoxious and obstructive. A spider fell from the inside of her skirt and promptly crawled back up her leg. "Tell me what you're reading first."

Venom couldn't help noticing the spider on her leg. Spiders weren't his favorite creatures. He narrowed his eyes and tried to continue his book.

"I'm under no obligation to tell you what I'm reading." He slowly turned the page, hoping the other girl would leave him be.

"No, you're not, but I'm not under any obligation to leave you alone, either." She sat down in front of him, knees bent outward and shins crossed over one another. Setting her elbows on her knees and putting her chin in her hands, she suggested, "So how about we trade?"

Venom looked up from his beloved reading material. Why wouldn't this strange girl just leave him in peace?

"Trade? What kind of trade?"

"Hm... How about you talk to me, and then I'll leave you alone?"

So, normal social interaction... Probably.

Venom just blinked. In order for her to leave him alone, he had to talk to her. But he didn't want to talk to her. He just wanted to read.

"I really would prefer to finish this book."
