This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

She wasn't relenting, her smile still firmly in place.

"You can finish the book later."

But he wanted to finish his book now... Venom's brow furrowed as he closed his book. He could just walk away and find a new table, but that probably wouldn't work.

"Have you read this series before?" A complete sentence! He was off to a decent start.

She leaned in and peered closer at the book, even though doing so was in no way necessary for her to make out the details of the cover.

"Hm... Nope! I haven't really had a lot of time to read anything."

Venom instinctively moved back, mostly because his personal bubble was four times larger than the average student.

"You must have a busy schedule, then." The boy couldn't imagine that. No time to read anything?

"Hm... Not really. It's more like I wasn't in a place where I could read anything until recently."

She finds it a little strange that he doesn't get it even though he has wings, but ultimately that only makes her more interested in him.

"Oh." He recalled being in a place like that. One of his foster families barely did any reading, so Venom resorted to sneaking in some television late at night. It was also the first time he forced himself to go out in public just to get a library card.

"I say this place is as good as any to start. They have a good selection, I think."

"What would you recommend? Do you like the book you're reading now? What's it about?"

She probably could have stood to keep it to one question at a time, but she didn't. Truth be told, she wasn't a big reader, but she could enjoy a book if it was interesting.

Venom's winced at mini-barrage of questions. His wings tensed up and flapped unexpectedly. "Um... It's an okay book, I guess. Not my favorite in the series."

She accomplished something that very few have ever done with him: she actually got him to engage in a real conversation. Though he still wanted to slink away.

"Oh, yeah? Why's that? What is your favorite? And you still haven't told me what it's about!"

As much of an accomplishment as that was, Yamame still clearly thought it was too early to call it a victory. The barrage continued.

The frustrated bird was ready to storm off, but again, he didn't. Maybe telling her the basic plot would make her leave.

"It's about wizards who ally themselves with sentient dragons. They fight an evil wizard who is bent on taking over both their lands."

How naive.

"Oh, that sounds interesting. Maybe I'll read it, too! Did you find it here, or did you bring it from somewhere else?"

"I found this one at a bookstore in England. The rest are in my room."

Socializing wasn't so bad, though Venom still felt very uncomfortable. "It's a well done series if you like dragons and magic." He opened the book and showed her one of the illustrations.

Once again, she leaned in farther than was strictly necessary when he turned the book toward her. "Hm... I don't think I've ever read any books about dragons and magic, but it sounds fun! Do you think I'd be able to find it here?"

Venom leaned back again as he looked for ~~food rivals~~ spiders coming from the girl's being. "The first two books are here in the school's library. I'm sure you can borrow them."

"Okay, then maybe I will!" She clapped her hands together. Her spiders weren't anywhere to be seen outside her clothes, but if he looked carefully, he could probably take note of some dark shapes under the cloth of her shirt. "How many books are there? And what one are you reading now?"

"There are eight in this series. I'm on the sixth." Venom didn't know it yet, but he was finding talking to a random stranger a bit easier than before. She was annoying, but still nicer than some of his "parents" in the past.

Yamame definitely noticed that his replies seemed less reluctant now than they had earlier. So, seeing as he hadn't answered all of the questions she had asked, she continued to prod. "Oh... So why don't you like this one as much, then?"

"It's hard to say, really. It doesn't seem as deep as the others, and it goes on forever without any real development." Venom thumbed the pages of his book. "Sad too since the seventh book is spectacular."
