you know what I'm sayin'?
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before applying, and to see if things "click". Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.
Lee Chaolan-Tekken
[The writing on the chalk board has six composers with their works scrambled in a cloud below. He translated the same concept in Japanese and Mandarin Chinese for those students that are still learning English.
Wearing mostly one color is easier to camouflage than wearing three of four colors. He is often strange that way. Today, it's white.]
Now class, we are going to play a little matching game. I'm going to ask a student to come up and play a few bars from the first piece that comes to mind from the composers that I have written on the board behind me and the first person that guesses it correctly will choose a student to play next for the game. The one who has the most correct will gain amnesty for this week's quiz with an automatic A.
This is to encourage participation. Even if you get them wrong, don't despair. There's always next week and a little reading never hurts.
That sounds fair, doesn't it? Now, are there any questions before we begin?
[Action/Training (Danger Room)]
[Lee's X-Men suit isn't black like the others. The material on it seems more iridescent and changes with the light than a solid color. He closes his eyes for a moment while he breathed. His hands flex and the color begins to change to a dark blue along with his skin and hair. A slow exhale, his skin and costume take on the texture of concrete along with the color.
This is his warm up. He cycles through the entire spectrum before he returns to normal. Having the ability of a chameleon only much more advanced has its disadvantages. He has to flex once in a while to keep it sharp. Bending light is an interesting feat.
With the students now lining up, he smiles and motions with his hands in a dramatic fashion into a bow.]
Good afternoon. I am your instructor Lee Chaolan, or Mister Lee for those of you that prefer to call me by my first name. Excellent!
Now then, let's play a little game of hide and seek. Each one of us are having to fight random opponents in this place. If you are discovered, you will have to fight to find your ally. Your ally is your classmate. I will be included in this exercise only I will be the enemy. If I find you and I beat you in a fight, you're considered dead and must report to the red circle.
If you find me and beat me, I'm considered dead and the exercise is over. Ready? You have one minute to find your hiding place before I begin the simulation. Go!

She sighs and heads off to find a place to hide. Something else she's not that good at. Or maybe she just doesn't try to be good at it.]

Once the watch beeps, he turns around and phases out in his run. The only thing that can be heard is his footfalls and breathing but other than that, he's completely invisible, bending the light tightly around his body with barely an outline of him seen.
The program within the Danger Room activates right as his alarm goes off to reveal several "men" brandishing pipes, chains, knifes, and other street weapons to aid in the challenge. With the safety on, no one was going to be literally killed in this exercise except for the holograms.]
no subject
With a sigh and a shrug she heads to the red circle and sits. It's not that she can't take care of herself in these situations it's just that she doesn't take it seriously. Plus, if she were to get too caught up in a fight she could really end up hurting the other students.]
no subject
That...was interesting. At least this wasn't tag or you would all be inside this circle within minutes. Let's see, fifteen minutes and twelve seconds? Okay, I take that back.
It's an improvement from last time...which was terrible I might add. Utterly hideous. Now, this is the part where I'm supposed to give some sort of pep talk and uplift you in some small way.
It has been an improvement. That I will admit. At least you didn't reduce yourselves to hiding in closets with a shoebox on your head. Yes, we actually had someone do this. It was quite hilarious.
All in all, not too shabby for a second run, first run for most of you. And for you veterans, pitiful.
[He points to three people in the back.]
You, you and you. Run for five minutes, no powers. The rest of you, hit the showers. Ghost, a moment please.
no subject
She's pretty sure she knows what's going to be said, it's usually the same old thing.]
Aye?
no subject
I would like to train you personally. Your holding back is really stifling your ability to adapt. I've read up on your Nether energy. It's an extraordinarily rare gift, or curse depending on how you look at it.
Why do you hold back so much? I'm curious to hear your answer.
[He's not interested in the textbook response. He's interested in a more human response directly from the source.]
no subject
I don't wanna accidentally hurt anyone, sir. Plus it kinda makes e'eryone uneasy.
[She stares at her hands with a small frown.]
no subject
It's a very understandable cause and effect reason. However, the uneasiness, that's something that each individual has to overcome. Have you ever hand someone's hand before?
[Accelerated healing is a go with Lee so even if she were to hurt him, he can heal rapidly. He holds out his hand.]
Give it a try.
no subject
I know yer tryin' t'help but holdin' someone's hand doesn't mean anything. No' when I can't feel it. Ain't like when I still had m'arms, I don't feel that warmth anymo'.
no subject
That's not what I'm aiming for. I'm wanting to gauge your control over that energy and see if you are not just holding yourself back because of your own fear.
no subject
With o' without th' glove? 'Cause it gonna be cold eithah way.
no subject
Your choice. I'm not afraid.
no subject
Without hesitation she takes his hand and true to her word it's cold. Not like ice but still cold. And unlike flesh it doesn't heat up from a touch. It's also leaves the person feeling light, tingling feeling.
Obviously a situation like this doesn't other her, she's calm and in control like this.]
Happy now?
no subject
It's finally nice to meet you, Dalial Galloway.
[It didn't seem to bother him at all either. In fact, it was something more akin to warm curiosity than shock and his brother was far worse even if Lee himself was adopted into the family.]
Yes, I'm happy now. Thank you.
no subject
Good. [She pulls her hand back works to put her glove back on.]
So what kinda trainin' did y'have in mind?
no subject
What have you been able to do so far?
no subject
[She eyes him as she waits for his answer. She's not suspicious of him, in fact she's actually feeling a little bit at ease, which shows with how much her accent is slipping out.]
no subject
Oh, now what kind of teacher would I be if I didn't read on every student I teach? I want to hear it from you. What's on paper and what you are confident with are two different things. Yes?
no subject
I can manipulate th' energy that makes up m'arms into pretty much any shape I wan'. [Although she has yet to figure out how practically apply that beyond cutting things.]
I can kill wi' jus' a touch. I sometimes end up killin' electric stuff, m'draining the electricity or somethin'. Sometimes I can turn invisible, but it ne'er last long. An' sometimes I can phase t'rough stuff.
That's all I know how t'do. Though wouldn' say I really know how t'do the last two things.
no subject
[Lee's silver eyes stare ahead while his head nods as he listens. He loves working with different powers and learning about them. His own deals with his body and energy projection isn't his. He is still eager to teach even after all these years.]
That's why you shouldn't hold back. You should flow like the water. Be the water...but you're not water. The same principle applies, I think. It's all energy. Your power shouldn't be separate from you. It's a part of you. What you feel, it will respond to. A lot of teachers look at the power and not the person.
Relax. Have a little fun. Kids these days are way too serious. Be a kid. You'll thank me later.
[He gave a thumbs up and a wink as he called out to the students that were still running.]
You're five minutes was up a long time ago. Hit the showers.
no subject
An' not all of 'em will come back, not like me.
no subject
I'm sorry that you have to suffer like this. It's a very understandable distance and a substantial burden. I'm not speaking trivially on this.
[He steps off to the side to lean against the wall in thought.]
You're story isn't much different than a lot of students that arrive in this school. Many have lost loved ones to their power. Some have lost entire families and each one has overcome their inner challenges to save lives.
no subject
She gives a little smile and shakes her head.]
I am find around others in most situations but durin' a fight... If I get too caught up in it or lose control... I could end up doin' more damage than good even when tryin' t'help.
[Truthfully she is a little scared of her abilities. She's afraid of just how powerful she can be.]
no subject
[Lee lifts up his finger in an enthusiastic manner. He did read that part in her file but he's not going to mention it. He's been shot in the head once and woke up in the morgue naked and walked out without really thinking about it. That was a freaky moment in his life he could relate to.]
It sounds like you need to learn meditation!
