you know what I'm sayin'?
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before applying, and to see if things "click". Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

She's pretty sure she knows what's going to be said, it's usually the same old thing.]
Aye?

I would like to train you personally. Your holding back is really stifling your ability to adapt. I've read up on your Nether energy. It's an extraordinarily rare gift, or curse depending on how you look at it.
Why do you hold back so much? I'm curious to hear your answer.
[He's not interested in the textbook response. He's interested in a more human response directly from the source.]
no subject
I don't wanna accidentally hurt anyone, sir. Plus it kinda makes e'eryone uneasy.
[She stares at her hands with a small frown.]
no subject
It's a very understandable cause and effect reason. However, the uneasiness, that's something that each individual has to overcome. Have you ever hand someone's hand before?
[Accelerated healing is a go with Lee so even if she were to hurt him, he can heal rapidly. He holds out his hand.]
Give it a try.
no subject
I know yer tryin' t'help but holdin' someone's hand doesn't mean anything. No' when I can't feel it. Ain't like when I still had m'arms, I don't feel that warmth anymo'.
no subject
That's not what I'm aiming for. I'm wanting to gauge your control over that energy and see if you are not just holding yourself back because of your own fear.
no subject
With o' without th' glove? 'Cause it gonna be cold eithah way.
no subject
Your choice. I'm not afraid.
no subject
Without hesitation she takes his hand and true to her word it's cold. Not like ice but still cold. And unlike flesh it doesn't heat up from a touch. It's also leaves the person feeling light, tingling feeling.
Obviously a situation like this doesn't other her, she's calm and in control like this.]
Happy now?
no subject
It's finally nice to meet you, Dalial Galloway.
[It didn't seem to bother him at all either. In fact, it was something more akin to warm curiosity than shock and his brother was far worse even if Lee himself was adopted into the family.]
Yes, I'm happy now. Thank you.
no subject
Good. [She pulls her hand back works to put her glove back on.]
So what kinda trainin' did y'have in mind?
no subject
What have you been able to do so far?
no subject
[She eyes him as she waits for his answer. She's not suspicious of him, in fact she's actually feeling a little bit at ease, which shows with how much her accent is slipping out.]
no subject
Oh, now what kind of teacher would I be if I didn't read on every student I teach? I want to hear it from you. What's on paper and what you are confident with are two different things. Yes?
no subject
I can manipulate th' energy that makes up m'arms into pretty much any shape I wan'. [Although she has yet to figure out how practically apply that beyond cutting things.]
I can kill wi' jus' a touch. I sometimes end up killin' electric stuff, m'draining the electricity or somethin'. Sometimes I can turn invisible, but it ne'er last long. An' sometimes I can phase t'rough stuff.
That's all I know how t'do. Though wouldn' say I really know how t'do the last two things.
no subject
[Lee's silver eyes stare ahead while his head nods as he listens. He loves working with different powers and learning about them. His own deals with his body and energy projection isn't his. He is still eager to teach even after all these years.]
That's why you shouldn't hold back. You should flow like the water. Be the water...but you're not water. The same principle applies, I think. It's all energy. Your power shouldn't be separate from you. It's a part of you. What you feel, it will respond to. A lot of teachers look at the power and not the person.
Relax. Have a little fun. Kids these days are way too serious. Be a kid. You'll thank me later.
[He gave a thumbs up and a wink as he called out to the students that were still running.]
You're five minutes was up a long time ago. Hit the showers.
no subject
An' not all of 'em will come back, not like me.
no subject
I'm sorry that you have to suffer like this. It's a very understandable distance and a substantial burden. I'm not speaking trivially on this.
[He steps off to the side to lean against the wall in thought.]
You're story isn't much different than a lot of students that arrive in this school. Many have lost loved ones to their power. Some have lost entire families and each one has overcome their inner challenges to save lives.
no subject
She gives a little smile and shakes her head.]
I am find around others in most situations but durin' a fight... If I get too caught up in it or lose control... I could end up doin' more damage than good even when tryin' t'help.
[Truthfully she is a little scared of her abilities. She's afraid of just how powerful she can be.]
no subject
[Lee lifts up his finger in an enthusiastic manner. He did read that part in her file but he's not going to mention it. He's been shot in the head once and woke up in the morgue naked and walked out without really thinking about it. That was a freaky moment in his life he could relate to.]
It sounds like you need to learn meditation!
no subject
[She tilts her head and raises a brow. She can't really see how mediation will help keep her from losing control during a fight.]
no subject
[He walks slowly as he talks about it in a very teacher-like manner.]
It's a method of focus. Martial artists use it to imagine what their opponents would do to predict their battles. It's a balance between peace and chaos, Ying and Yang. You can't have one without the other. Logan is a very good example.
no subject
I guess anythin' is worth a try.
no subject
Excellent. We'll meet in the garden tomorrow morning one hour before school and again one hour after school. This way, we can reflect and I can teach you how to recharge your chi. Yes?
no subject
Okay.
