[Prose]

For once Kankri wasn't rambling about Social Issues, at someone. In fact he seemed pretty content just eating his breakfast and reading a paper. He's pretty much absorbed into it.

[personal profile] n99neescapes 2012-09-06 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfounately, Kankri would not notice till he went to grab another piece of toast. There's some jam on his sleeve and face.

"What?"

Cue him chasing after the plate, tripping over the chairs, once he caught sight of it.

Kenzi caught the plate and sat back, getting ready to finish off the rest of Kankri's meal. At least until she saw him coming.

-Well at least SOMEONE can look past his quirk-

To be honest, I'm not fond of the idea, but it's hard to plan for a worst case scenario when so many people are clamoring for some sort of solution. Registration might not be it. Especially with a lack of mutant representation in government. But no one seems to be presenting other solutions.

N9t t9 menti9n the impact this might have 9n metahumans. M9st cis-humans w9uld n9t 6e a6le t9 tell the difference right away due to the wide sc9pe 9f p9ssi6le mutati9ns and it c9uld lead t9 unf9runate triggering t9 9nes that d9 n9t want t9 6e lumped in with us. Why a wh9le new schism c9uld appear 9f Meta's vs. Mutants vs. Cis-humans. Which w9uld m9st likely end in pr96lematic and futile 6l99dshed, and take away fr9m the m9re imp9rtant issues and s9cietal pr96lems at hand.

6ut that is an unf9rtunate digressi9n, which I d9 ap9ligize f9r. Pe9ple in g9vernment l99king 9ut f9r all parties intrestes, w9uld indeed 6e the 6est way t9 ensure a 6etter law.

Techically, we already have a form of metahuman regulation if you consider SHIELD to act as such. And even then, mutants are decidedly more common, and thus shoulder the larger portion of public concern.

Still, when you think about how other national governments have been handling these matters, America is at least doing something, even if it doesn't seem like a very good idea. It will need work, though. And hopefully that's just what it will get once the act is introduced into congress.

We're only seeing one side of the issue from the points of view of biased individuals. It's this tripe that causes many to take sides. Now, before I start raising my pitchfork and rounding up my posse, I have to ask myself am I pointing fingers at myself too?

Accusations fly and spread like a wildfire. It's sad to think that even those of us from the upper class are effected. We're swept under the rug and it's covered up like a blemish. "Oh, your son is a mutant? What a shame." Getting over something like that, even passively, still effects those that those words were directed to.

If you're asking me what side I would choose? My answer is simple. My own, but that doesn't mean I don't have opinions nor is it saying I'm ignoring the issue. I'm far from removed.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm saying that as a member of the 1% of America's income tax bracket, mutants born under this umbrella are viewed as blights and are either ignored, or the mutant issue is never addressed. Parents pretend that there's not problem to other members of their social groups without ever bringing up the fact that they are mutants. You have no idea how many dinner parties I have attended where I was put aside just because I'm a mutant. My voice is never heard in such debates and I side with my own kind.

Before I came to this school, I hated what I am. I was taught that hate from my peers, family and the staff at the schools I attended. Instead of putting on my record "Mutant", they instead labeled me as a disciplinary problem. Is that fair? No. I am what I am. It took three schools and a burned down gym to realize this. My own father refuses to tell anyone that I attend Xavier's. He removed me from the family register, had me emancipated, and I'm living off the interest of my own trust fund. I have no family. My father's estate is going to my half-brother from my father's second marriage and has said that Jacob is his only son.

I'm not complaining, I'm just putting it out there.

I'm in this just the same as you are. The rich, middle-class and poor are all affected and the common thing most families do? They tell their kids that powers are bad and we shouldn't use them. Period. We are taught to ignore and hate ourselves for it because we're different. It's an irritating fact.

Those that embrace it? Good on them. At least they had the support and are taught the right way. Now, I'm not saying they don't have their own share of problems and there's no telling how many more are out there that have the same problems as you or me. In fact, I plan on taking a stand. This is my last year in high school and I plan on taking Political Science and Economics. At least there, I can try to make a difference on their own battlefield.

If it's a fight they want, I'll bring it. Make no doubt about that.

[personal profile] n99neescapes 2012-09-06 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
A trigger is anything that make a pers9n relive an unf9runate, and ususally, traumatic event in their life.

It's a terri6le thing.

C9mm9n triggers include, but are n9t limted t9 (I w9uld l99k away if y9u think y9u might have any): incest, a6use, racism, mis9gyny (th9ugh s9me pe9ple might claim that misandry is 9ne t99, if it exists,) ableism, parental a6and9nment (A tricky 9ne as many mutants here seem t9 suffer fr9 that,) anything that ends with -ism and s9 forth. They sh9uld be av9ided as much as p9ssi6le, lest things 6ec9me pr96lmatic.
