This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

The wings are pretty. She really wants to ask questions about them, about whether they let her fly or not, if they hurt when it's cold out like bird wings, and other things, but she remembers her Mama told her not to interrogate people about mutations. Still, it's hard.

"Oh, good. I got lost for a bit with how big the school is. It's nice to meet you, Reki. My name's Janice Damasio."

Reki wouldn't mind answering her questions (no, and yes). In fact, doing exactly what Janice was told not to do is what she does immediately, taking one of the stools, crossing one shin over her thigh and leaning forward on her hand, the picture of big sisterly interest.

"If it's something you wanna talk about, what can you do, Janice Damasio?"

"You can call me Jan. My friends Percy and Jack do all the time. I... um, well, I can control darkness - but not in a creepy evil way, I promise! Just ask my friends, it's really not as bad as it sounds." She straightens up, voice a little defensive. "My Mom says it's what I do that counts. Right?"

There's a stereotype of bad powers equally bad people, but Janice is determined she's not going to be a bad person no matter what. She's always been an optimist, and even if other people might be unsettled by her powers, she knows she's good. The Skin Taker had telekinesis, a 'benign' power, and he was a monster. So there.

Reki, who died and faintly scented her wings because most people still associated black wings that smelled somewhat of blood with demons, had no room to judge, not that she'd want to even if she could. She tried to remember what that book had said about this very subject, the one with the aliens with no genders...

"Light is the left hand of darkness and darkness the right hand of light." A sardonic little smile, acknowledging that the quote sounded a little new-agey woowoo. "Ursula K Leguin said that. Practically, that means since darkness is just the absence of light, you could just as easily say you manipulate light."

"I guess, but... I've only made things dark before. It's kind of lying to say light because I can't make things brighter, and I don't like to lie." Janice pauses, and adds, "I like that quote, though. It sounds nice."
