This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.
Janice Damasio | Candle Cove
She's lost, but mostly because she keeps getting lost repeatedly, tempted to look into rooms and go down hallways, round eyes sweeping the building and snub nose scrunched up as if taking mental notes. She only stops to retie what appears to be an extremely long shoelace wrapped six times around her wrist, holding it up to the light to squint at it and make sure it's done right.
Unless someone gives her directions, she's not likely to get to class even reasonably late at this rate.]

Making his way over, his expression was passive, but still friendly.]
Are you...lost?

Yeah. I'm new here, and this is way bigger than my old school. Would ya mind helpin' me out?
[Her Southern accent aside, her voice is friendly and cheerful, like being lost is by no means something to panic over.]

[He comes up a bit closer to confirm that his skin is indeed a grey tone, and his hair a somewhat darker hue.]

I think I'm supposed to be in English right now. I guess I jus' took a wrong turn or something, I don't know... Sorry about this.
character who can bring drawings to life+kid's description of the skin taker=???
So seeing one poke its moppety head into her classroom is not surprising. She doesn't miss a beat, continuing to set up the easels for today's class.
"Hey there. I'm guessing you're new."
It equals Nightmare Fuel considering in her app I've written the Skin Taker's already real. DX XD
"Yes ma'am. I just got here today. I'm assuming this is the art class - I was worried I'd be late. Bit of a big building ya got here."
Her voice is Southern accent tinged but not sheepish; she's too busy examining the easels, looking at them like they're foreign objects, getting absorbed in just how vastly different this school is from her old one.

"You're early actually. Which is pretty rare." Art doesn't tend to attract the punctual kindof student. "I'm Reki, by the way. Just Reki, no 'miss' or anything."
no subject
"Oh, good. I got lost for a bit with how big the school is. It's nice to meet you, Reki. My name's Janice Damasio."

"If it's something you wanna talk about, what can you do, Janice Damasio?"

There's a stereotype of bad powers equally bad people, but Janice is determined she's not going to be a bad person no matter what. She's always been an optimist, and even if other people might be unsettled by her powers, she knows she's good. The Skin Taker had telekinesis, a 'benign' power, and he was a monster. So there.

"Light is the left hand of darkness and darkness the right hand of light." A sardonic little smile, acknowledging that the quote sounded a little new-agey woowoo. "Ursula K Leguin said that. Practically, that means since darkness is just the absence of light, you could just as easily say you manipulate light."
