This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

The door to the hallway is open while Ylva is cleaning the room, lifting up furniture with one hand to reach under it with the vacuumer with the other. A little project for chemistry went over board just a bit and left a fine film of silver on everything. Wonderful. She's singing what she works, and for those not familiar with Icelandic it will sound beautiful. For those who understand the language it will be clear that the words tell a story of war and bloodshed, some re-imagined Viking tale.

[Marie's become a pretty frequent user of the network in the very short time she's been here, and today as she pops up on video, it's with the biggest smile on her face.]

Good morning, everyone! I was just wondering, what plans do you all have for Valentine's Day? It'll be here quicker than you expect, after all!

[ Action ]
[Getting settled into a new room is difficult. Marie's been moving things about in her new room but... she's just given up at this point. She's taking a break for the time being. Anyone wandering the third floor of the girl's dorms will hear violin music coming from one of the rooms. The door's open... so maybe it wouldn't hurt to take a peek?]

1: The new boy came in a right mess. Cornered by pursuers, they say, he'd flung himself off a building to the bricks below rather than be taken alive. Or perhaps he'd been pushed. Anyway, thin and pale, he's as much scarecrow as teenager. Only a last minute transformation to imitate the physiology of a cat he'd seen on the way down had saved him from a messy, if dramatic death. He's sitting up now, awake in the infirmary. Tufts of catlike fur still mingle with his wavy black hair. His eyes are still slitted, ears still a little pointed. He has the wary, resigned look of an old stray too.

2: Liir hadn't counted on his secondary mutation manifesting so suddenly. Whatever he touched, deliberately or accidentally, just showed a vision of its history to him and he blushes a bright green, trying to conceal what he just saw. Was it the blanket you made love on? The photo of someone you cared for? The plate you threw in a rage then shamefacedly glued together? Whatever it was, he didn't mean to, but now he knows.

[Whether your character knows that's his secondary mutation or not is up to you, as are the circumstances which caused him to touch the object.]

3: It's been time enough to heal for him and now he's taken to the gym to resume certain habits he developed in JROTC. First he can be found at the heavy bag, hitting it over and over again: double leg takedown, jab-cross, thai roundhouse, the outer sweep. Then to the weights. For all, he mouths the number of each rep silently.

Edward can be found, as he often is, in the dormitory rec room, watching a movie on the big screen with a bowl of popcorn on his lap. It was some old Bruce Lee movie, he's been steadily making his way through a stack of them lately.

It's not like he's some sort kung-fu fanatic though (maybe just a bit, they're fun!), watching these are mostly part of his own personal training. His mutation allowed him to perfectly replicate the movements of anyone he saw after having only seen it once. It was an incredibly mundane power, or at least that was the British teen's firm opinion. However... being able to master kung-fu in a couple weeks by marathoning movies was pretty fun.

... Excuse me, but... does anyone have the notes from math yesterday...? I got sick, so I missed the class... [She fidgets a little, looking a tad uncomfortable.] Would someone be so kind as to loan them to me? I'll return them as soon as I can...

[Ib was lost. Very, very lost. This school was huge and unlike anything she'd ever seen before. Anyone looking at the girl could probably tell she was lost, too--she was just standing in the courtyard, with her suitcase, staring up at the school.

Intimidating? Juuuuust a bit.]

[ She's sitting on a windowsill in the recreation room, a sketchbook propped against her knee. She likes art, is one of the few classes she bothers paying attention to. And it's not exactly a group activity so it makes her lack of friends, or any kind of social life for that matter, less noticeable.

On the paper in front of her, she's already sketched out a caricature of Principle Summers and is now working on another one of 'Bad Girl'. She wonders what would happen if she were to turn this is as her art assignment. Probably nothing good. Still... it could be worth it. ]

Well, okay, so Sabitsuki is the closest thing to a shut-in that they'll actually allow at this place. Terminal illnesses can do that to a girl, you know?
But for once she's actually outside, presumably skipping a class she's not fond of, or maybe it's a passing period and she's getting some air.

And maybe your mental defenses are low enough to get hit by her accidental projection. Suddenly, looking over, she might be a cat. Or maybe her guts are spilling out.
Or maybe she's half machine. It's all in your head, of course - accidental psychic projection and all - but it might still be a little weird.
Feel free to freak out! Or, you know, try and help her find her apparently missing limbs.

And it's after this that Irezumi - or as he was better known "Smile" - decided to go for a walk. It was rather nice out and Irezumi was content to skip class for once and wander around. The tattoos on his face kind of attracted a lot of attention but he was used to it at this point.

That, and there was another point to this. He may or may not have heard that his dear sister was seeing someone and Irezumi may or may not want to...talk to this person. Or Sabitsuki about this. Either or.

Good morning, all of you! Or, at least, most of you. Hopefully I have some of you left!
Anyway; so as not to make those... er, gone have anything to make up when they... get back, we won't be doing anything of consequence for the next week! Or so. Something around there, possibly more, hopefully much less!
Today, I hope you don't mind bringing in a few blankets! I have quite a bit planned that I'm sure you all will like!

Before class - which is usually centered around painting and other forms of wet media - Garry can be found setting up his "big plans" for today; the tables and supplies now ring the room, and he's gotten as many pillows as he's been allowed to take all piled on the floor, with a projection screen hanging on one of the walls.
... Not only that, but one of the tables also seems to be lined with refreshments.

If you want to help a teacher out, feel free - he's still moving furniture and whatnot, after all!

[Mary shouldn't have tried to figure out the maze by herself. It's a maze! She can't even do them on paper most days, but no. It seemed like it would be fun. That was 30 minutes ago and if this bush doesn't show her the exit now she will cut it down! Anyone nearby can probably hear Mary's frustrated groaning and not so creative insults and threats she's yelling at the carved bush.]

[The video starts and there's a few muffled voices as the camera's moved about, the two voices appearing to be having a disagreement before one side clearly wins and a boy in his early teens is holding the device.

He has skin the color of slate and eyes which are black rather than white with yellowish-green irises. Looking off camera, he takes a breath then looks back.]

Um, hi...I'm Skaar.

[Given free reign to explore, Skaar can be found wandering the halls with no clear sign of direction.]

[The video cuts onto a overly happy and smiling blonde. Who does not seem to care that her hair is a mess or the fact that the supervisor for the computer room is giving her such a glare right now.]

Guess who's back at school? Don't need ta clap or nothin', I missed bein' here so I had ta come back eventually! 'Sides, to many people ta bug and I want ta figure out more about my powers.

And ya all keep getting exciting this happenin' while I'm away. I'm stayin' put this time! Where is everyone anyways?

[Marisa had only been here long enough to drop her bag off in her new room before she was again outside and messing with things.

So she's out by the lake, her eyes closed with something glowing softly in between her outstretched hands. Anyone who knew her well had a idea of what she was doing. Anyone else would probably go bug the blonde which she really hoped would not happen. She wanted to make this work!]
