This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

It's always surreal when a teacher says "flunking" and they're actually not talking about me.
[Biology: One of the few academic subjects where he displays a.) interest b.) confidence. Too bad his spelling still sucks.]
Speaking of, I think I'm ready to hand in that lab report, although there was a mild microscope hiccup that kind of messed with the results a bit.
Well then I guess I can't be the problem. [Yes, Yoruichi, you can.]
Make sure you run that thing through a spellchecker, kiddo. Mind-reading isn't in my skillset. And what's this microscope hiccup about?
Yes ma'am! And I'll have my brother look through it for grammar errors before handing it in.
[And another wince, not so slight this time.] My lab partner may or may not have broken the lens of the first microscope. [You know, the most expensive part? No big deal.] And he did it by twisting the knob really hard because he thought it was "stuck", so he ended up messing up one of our samples too.
[Sigh.] I was wondering how that one got broken. Whatever. Can be replaced. [She doesn't care that it's the most expensive part. If the school doesn't want to pay for it, she might. If she feels like it. She's got the money.]
You guys are gonna need a do-over on that one. And I think you'd better be the one handling the equipment this time. It makes me look bad to have all my stuff get broken, you know.
Oh, I managed to save another sample from someone else, and it does work, it's just... not as neat.
[He laughs a bit helplessly.] And trust me, I'm not letting him close to a microscope again until he learns to not try to solve conflicts with inanimate things with violence.
R[video]
Well, we'll see how bad that'll hurt you guys on the grading. [Because she's a tough grader, even though she does things like sleep through her own tests.]
Yeah, it's odd how things with no consciousness don't respond to violence, isn't it?
[A small, amused little titter.] And yet sometimes it's very satisfying, I have to admit. Not when it's a sensitive piece of equipment, however.
I dunno; I prefer to take things out on someone who can feel it. Though I do usually try to not hurt that kind of sensitive equipment. [Should she be talking like that with a student? Probably not. But who cares, right?]
