This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

He extended a hand in a friendly gesture. "Name's Varon. No last name, just Varon." He dropped the family name for a reason. He loved his late parents too much to mar their reputation.

For a moment Dany stared at his hand, seemingly confused by the gesture. She reached out and took his hand but didn't shake it, it was as if she expected him to do something. Usually a kiss on the hand was what she was used to getting. Ah, the joys of different cultures and social classes. "Daenerys Targaryen, but um, you can call me Dany. It is easier on the tongue."

He thought about what she said with a small hum. Coming from a place where refinement wasn't part of the social game, the bush and living out in the wilderness didn't make for a lot of friends other than a few acquaintances along the way now and then. Friends were hard to come by when revenge played a huge role.
"So, you met this bloke? Gotta hand it to him, his tastes in homes are...er...stuffy." Varon really didn't have a good word for it. "I kinda miss the open air, but it's too damn cold to go camping out here."

Friends weren't a common thing for Dany either. At least, not friends her own age. She had knew many adults that she supposed she could call a friend but maybe that wasn't the right word for it.
"Just the once, right after I arrived. He seemed very nice. But yes, I do agree on the house feeling a little stuffy. Cluttered even. There is not enough open air in this layout." Her own home back home was large, possibly larger than the Institute but the layout for many of the rooms was very open. Sometimes Dany felt as if she were going to suffocate within the walls of the school. But that might just be the dragon in her complaining.
"It is much too cold."

His gloved hand traced over the lines of the furniture. The wood panels and the way everything seemed cramped together almost felt like he didn't belong there. The rides he often took to become deliberately lost eventually made their path back to his home when he used to ride his dirt bike. He smiled to himself over the memory of his father berating him about how often Varon returned on a nearly empty tank.
He turned around to face Dany again and arched his back. He hadn't realized until now just how sore he was from those long hours on the road. "Guess I should say I'm a mutant at least. Never really thought of it much. It just comes naturally."

Dany smiled and gave a little laugh, "I think that much is easy enough to figure out. After all, why else would you be here if you are not a mutant?"

He chuckled softly when Dany gave her little laugh. He often thought of what it would have been like if he was an older brother but that time had passed. He bottled up his emotions and left the thought in the background. "Maybe I got the address off of some bloke's matchbook." He grinned playfully. "Seriously, though, I guess even now I gotta have some place to go. Thought I could do it on my own but I guess that comes with the territory of dead broke and homeless mixed with being too proud to admit I needed anything."
no subject
"I doubt that to be the case." The last bit made her frown, she'd never had any experience with being dead broke or homeless. "That is terrible but at least you have here?"
no subject
He didn't mean to come off as harsh as he had but it did give some irritation when people gave him handouts. "I'm only here because it's expected of me." He wouldn't admit it, but he did need the education and he needed the place to stay.

The journey did take a lot out of him and before he realized it, he was needing sleep and food. He decided sleep was more important. "Listen, Dany, it's been a long trip and I'm beat. We can talk tomorrow when I'm feeling more spry. How's that?"

He walked toward the back then realized he had no idea where he was going. "Uh...mind pointing me to the dorms?"

"That's a might fancy dress you got on. Is there a play or something you're rehearsing for?"
no subject
She shook her head in response to his question, the bell once again jingling louder than it did when she was simply walking. "I um, I dress like this all the time." Not always full dresses but more often than not she wore long skirts.
no subject
"I dress like this all the time too, you know. I wouldn't have the legs for a dress." He joked.
