( the test drive meme )

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

Julie didn't move like this was her first day in a new school. It was partly because she always seemed supremely confident wherever she went, and partly because a future self had dropped by to give her a run down of where everything was.

Alex caught her ear more than he did her eye with his grumpy growling, and she gave him an amused look, which turned appreciative once he registered on her radar as 'cute'.

"Who pissed in your cereal this morning, cutie?"

Alex, on the other hand, still seemed like a new student after weeks of being here. He still wasn't exactly sitting with a new crowd. At first he didn't even look up. The algorithm wasn't functioning properly and he just had to find the line of code he had messed up. In the thousands of lines of code. Just great.

"If I have to pick suspects, I'd say the neighb'rin roommate. I've seen the looks he keeps giving." It was said with a light enough but serious tone. It was hard to guess if he was entirely joking on the matter.

When he glanced over his eyes were drawn immediately to her hair before they went back to the laptop. Nice hair. Very distinctive. Very.. bright.

"No, it's jus some stubborn old computer thing. Not even a big deal." Except it really was. This algorithm was nearly two years of work trying to understand his 'powers'.

"Seems like it's a big deal to you."

Julie wasn't very good with computers. Didn't really need to be because there was always someone around who was and she could usually talk them into helping her. She felt her energy was better spent learning about things she actually liked.

Alex was already getting filed away in her head as a potential person to ask for help about computer related things.

"Jus a bit."

Alex never payed enough attention to the people around him to know everyone who was new or who wasn't. But he was fairly certain he would remember her for her hair alone. So he offered a friendly smile, setting his laptop down on the nearest table with a quick darting of his fingers over the keys.

"Don't think I've seen you 'round any of my classes."

It was an alternative to 'you seem new'. Mainly because Alex wasn't used to not being 'the new kid' and he really just didn't want to be that guy who was always cornering him on the first day.

"Alex."

He offered his less occupied hand, slightly awkward for being his left and at a bit of an uncomfortable angle. But it was the gesture that counted or something, wasn't it?

"You wouldn't have, it's my first day."

She took his left hand with her right and sort of gave it a friendly squeeze as and alternative to shaking, and then left it free to get back to what seemed to be very important... tapping.

She wasn't even going to pretend to have any amount of understanding of what he was doing, much preferring to look at him than trying to get a glimpse on what was happening on his computer screen. Cute boy or flickering screen? Yeah, unless her life depended on staying focused on the screen that was an easily answered question.

Much as she cheated with her jumping around in time, she had somewhere decided on a rule that had been instilled in her even before she developed her power. She didn't talk about people. She didn't mention who she should talk to or hit on or anything like that. So she found herself wondering briefly if the future self who'd given her the run down about the school grounds liked this Alex guy. If they ever even talked.

"Julie, nice to meet you. I just transferred from France."

Which, when she said it out loud, sounded about as crazy impulsive as it had been.
