This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

[Her cat ears twitch as she settles back into her chair and fixes the webcam, muttering to herself as she adjusts things] What I wouldn't give for Gemini right now. Technology--Ah! It's a pleasure to meet you all. You can call me Leo. I'll be teaching Creative Writing for the time being. To be honest, I'm...hoping this will be temporary, but it's nice to be back here all the same.

ACTION

[She spent a lot of time here in her youth, before she got swept up across the country with her group of 'rebels'. It's time to get reacquainted with the--oh a rabbit. Her ears perk up and she drops to a crouch. It has to be fairly strange to see a teacher stalking a rabbit along the edge of the building but she's gotten used to hunting for food over time.

Just don't get in her way when she pounces]

There is bigger game further north, you know.

-The voice seemingly comes out of nowhere, or at least it would seem that way to someone whose senses were all focused on something else. But really, he wasn't too far off... In fact, he was above. Perched on the side of the building for no real apparent reason.-

[Leo doesn't actually look up--at first. Of course his voice scares the rabbit and her scramble to catch it leaves her in a tumble in the dust. After a moment of solemn reflection and cat-like nonchalance 'I meant to do that' dusting off, she peers around for the voice. Aha.]

Well it was more habit than anything else. I usually hunted for my friends when we were passing through rural areas. [Then a bit of the 'staff' came out in her] Isn't that dangerous?

's not dangerous.

-But he hops down rather than making an argument of it like he was usually prone to do.-

Climbing helps me stay nimble.

Well of course, but falling makes for broken bones. Which means you're even less nimble than you were before. Speaking as an expert in falling off things. So just be careful. [She tilts her head] I'm afraid I'm new so I don't know your name quite yet. I forgot how varied the student body was.

[gwanga]

I am also new. Hugo, of Karaya! -Well, of Kenya, but tribal pride was still very much a thing in that part of the world.-

Leo, of...the world. [Bastet laughs and shrugs] I can claim this as home but I've been most places. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Karaya though.

[Action]

[Apollo is stalking that rabbit. Of course he smells someone else nearby, but he doesn't bother looking because how many other people here would be hunting a rabbit? Apparently one more than he thought. Approaching on all fours, he prepares to attack his prey.

Buttwiggle. Buttwiggle. Pounce!]

[Action]

[There's an identical moment. She smells someone--but ignores it. As long as they don't scare it off, it's not something she worries about. A leap--a pounce--]

OW! [And two heads smashing together]

[Action]

[gotthescent]

Ow! [Alas, the rabbit is long gone now. And Apollo is pissed and rubbing his head.]

Watch where you're pouncing! [He says it as if that's a completely normal thing to have to say and completely ignoring that he didn't watch out either. It's obviously the other person's fault, not his!]

[Part of her stubbornly wants to point out that whole not watching either thing, but the other part remembers that she should know better. She settles for gently chiding, adopting Virgo's tone as much as possible] Ah, I would suggest the same for you. Seems like neither of us got it, in the end. I'm sure another will show up around here.
