This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

What does matter is the fact that he/she is singing opera whilst standing on one of the cafeteria tables. ]

[Well, that is just beautiful. Random acts of opera can never be a bad thing, so he stops and listens, looking positively enchanted. And when she appears to be finished, he applauds enthusiastically.]

That was beautiful. Who are you, and where have you been all my life, hmm~?

[ She leaps down from the table and transforms her landing into a gallant bow, catching one of his hands to kiss it. ]

With all the wrong people, obviously.

[ You can't blame her, Fai is pretty and she does have a bit of a thing for blondes.

Her English is good but the French accent is still obvious. ]

[Oh lord, the stranger has an accent on top of the opera voice, and just kissed his hand, allow him to gently swoon. Except he won't, but he'll kiss her hand in stead and grin.]

Fai Flourite, and I am very glad to have finally encountered my saviour in that case. Will you sweep me away from this drab everyday existence, Julie?

[ No, it is not an abrupt change of subject, it is in fact a very relevant question. Drab coffee makes drab everyday existence even more drab. ]

[That just makes him laugh, because personally he find that to be a perfectly logical leap.]

So my brother keeps telling me. In very expressive Italian, usually while gesturing in the most offended manner possible at whatever coffee it is that has irked him in the first place. Personally I am not allowed to drink coffee. It makes me jittery.

If I'm not doing something it's probably not worth doing, and I'm not feeling terrible so I wouldn't bother with it if I were you.

[ Some would say she's more annoying than lovable, actually, but she's on Fai's side in this. ]

You are, in fact, entirely correct. It would be a crime, and one I would have to punish you for rather severely should you commit it.

[Alex had barely glanced from his position in the far corner of the cafeteria when she...he?... the person started to sing. It did catch him off guard but this code wasn't going to straighten itself out and his laptop was going to burn into a useless heap of wires and plastic if he didn't get ahead of it.

So it's not until he finally gets his own virus into the system that he actually bothers to say something.]

Tha's a new one. Don' think I've heard that'un before.

No? It's been around for a couple of centuries or so.

[ Well hello there, handsome stranger.

Julie steps down from the table and gives him a wide, charming smile, sitting down across from him as if she's been invited. ]

Did you like it?

[ She could probably speak with less of an accent, but she personally likes the way it sounds. ]

[He couldn't. He could try not to have an accent. It would end horribly. He was always terrible with voices. Good thing it wasn't people he could change his shape to. He would really be useless then.]

I did, yeah. Was a nice 'nough sound. You've pretty good vocal chords on you.

[He smiled back, hitting a few keys on the keyboard without tearing his eyes away from her yet. When he finished the fingers of his left hand drummed the beat to the song against the case of his laptop.]

Never been much of the knowledgeable sort when it comes to music.

[He could play a keyboard of just about any type but if you asked him who sang a song or the words to it, the poor guy wouldn't have a clue.]

[ Julie isn't one for false modesty. ]

[Alex wouldn't know where to begin with trying that himself. He's always been a terrible liar in person. If he ever gets caught, he's screwed.]

[ Julie is a rather splendid liar, but still often gets caught. Mostly because she considers it to be part of the fun. ]

[His smile remained and he flipped the lid of the laptop shut, offering her a hand. Because handshakes were the polite thing weren't they? He was pretty sure they were, though he was left wondering what her powers might be.

Of the many schools he had attended, this was the oddest, by far.]

[ She takes his hand without hesitation, shaking it with warmth. ]

Well, I've a bit o' skill cooking noodles. And I can play some deeply impressive minesweeper.

[He shakes as well with a light laugh and a shrug of his shoulders.]

But I can guess what you really mean, and I can't really do much worth mentionin'. I can change. Can't do it when I want, though. Or t'what I want. Not a lot a good, that.

[ The deliberate misunderstanding gets a bit of a laugh out of her before she continues her questioning. ]

What do you change into?

Animals.

[Her laugh makes his smile grow a bit, but he's just making casual conversation, really. This has never been a part of that before now.]

Actual animals. And before you ask, No, I can't actually demonstrate.

You said you couldn't control it so I was sort of assuming that demonstrations were a little outside your capabilities at the moment.

[ She observes that he has a nice smile and makes a mental note to try to bring it out some more. ]
