you know what I'm sayin'?
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before applying, and to see if things "click". Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.
Rosa Farrell | Final Fantasy IV
[It had started as idle evening conversation: boy, I'd really like some brownies. And everyone had agreed! Brownies would be a great idea. They could go down to the kitchen and get out some pans and some chocolate, and bake up a whole bunch, and they'd eat brownies until they fell over, and it'd be great. Right?
...who knew how to cook, again? Wait, Rosa knew how to cook! Wasn't she always making things? Rosa, would you please make us some brownies? We'll help!
They were so excited, and they wanted it so much, how could she say no? Even if she still had piles of homework to do, even if there was somewhere that she really needed to be in an hour... alright. She'd show them how to make brownies.]
Alright.... alright. we've got two square pans, two bowls, the mixing spoons, a whisk, the flour, the butter, the sugar, the eggs.... um, and what kind of chocolate is there? Cocoa powder? Baker's chocolate?
[...there was no way this could go wrong. She had done this dozens of times before. Everything would be fine. Right?]
[Action: Danger Room]
[Archery may not have been a 'mutant power' of hers, but it was still something that Rosa was very proficient at. There were trophies on her shelf and ribbons on her wall back home to prove it. But right now, that felt like the only proof that she had. All of her wins had been with a recurve bow. That's what you competed with. That's what was allowed at the Olympic level. But she had been given a compound bow here, a fancy thing with cables and pulleys. It must have been terribly expensive, and she was very grateful, of course... but it was taking some getting used to.]
....tch! Drat...
[That shot had hit the target, but it didn't hit dead center. Not good enough. She nocks another arrow and takes aim again.]
Oh, hi.
Hey. Are you doing alright? You seem a little... well, distressed.
Well hi there!
[He was a bit late, and his arrival came moments before she was about to make her shot. Her head didn't turn, her focus was fine, but the sudden spike of joy made her grip loosen just a bit. And that was enough for her to accidentally release the shot and have it go wide, missing the target entirely.]
D... darn it!
[No swearing, no swearing... she bit her lower lip, lowered her bow, and turned to Cecil with an embarrassed smile.]
I'm fine. I'm just getting used to using this thing. That's all.
no subject
You'll get used to it in no time.
no subject
I will. I'm sure I will.
[She took a few paces closer, her head tilting curiously.]
What do they want you to practice today, Cecil?
no subject
[Looking over to her he almost immediately looked flustered, and cleared his throat.]
Oh. Uh... nothing that they haven't told me to work on before.
[He came her to check on her... not the other way around.]
no subject
[This whole 'mutant' business was still an awkward thing, wasn't it? Her smile remained encouraging, and she reached out to briefly rest a hand on his upper arm.]
I'll finish up, then. I shouldn't be much longer.
[And she stepped back to her spot in front of the targets, pulling another arrow from her quiver and nocking it.]
...they say next week, I'll have to start on moving targets.
[She aims, she pulls back, she releases the arrow... and thunk, it sinks into the center of the target.]
They're going to want me to shoot at people eventually, aren't they...?
no subject
Perhaps that is something not to dwell too much on.
no subject
..you're right. That's a long ways away, isn't it?
[...okay. That was enough practice for now. She set down the bow and unfastened her quiver, then turned about once again.]
I've been at this for a while. That's enough. We should go do something that's fun.
no subject
[He watched her, and tilted his head ever so slightly as he took notice of where the arrow had struck. A pause. Shortly followed by a blink.]
You have? Oh... I didn't think I was going to be that late but...
no subject
[Then she laughed again and gave him a playful little waggle of her finger.]
no subject
H-hey! ...I don't know how to use that.
[He then pointed in defense at the bow. He then did his best to look offended... in what he had hoped was a joking manner.]
