you know what I'm sayin'?
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before applying, and to see if things "click". Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

Dressed in gym clothes, her long blonde hair tied up in red ribbons, a woman stood in the center of a gym mat. There were no classes happening at the moment, and though there might be a few students and other residents mingling about, the space was largely empty.
She could do this outside, but when she pushes her limits she tends to get distracted easily by the sights and sounds.
Yukari spreads her hands open, eyes closed, mind focused on the task at hand. Before her is a narrow, but long tear in the air. This "gap" is pitch black, but leaves no shadow even as it expands to the space of about a meter. Her hand moves and the shape follows the gesture, the abyss growing until it looks as if the entire oval could engulf a door.
Then, eyes squeezing shut tighter, she changes her stance and appears to be pushing on this shape. Her hands never make contact, but nevertheless it is obvious what she is after. There doesn't seem to be any progress, and the void soon fills with an odd sort of static. The snowy pattern intensifies until a minute passes and it blinks from existence, the woman collapsing to her knees on the mat.
(Anyone with the appropriate sort of psychic abilities will have heard or felt that static hiss before growing and growing, until the gap disappeared. It was coming from her just as much as it was coming from inside that hole, for reference!)
[ Action ]
[ The woman in the elegant dress was new to the campus. Her arrival had been earlier in the day, beginning with a meeting in Xavier's office, and now she was wandering the grounds outside and learning the layout.
Violet eyes regarded the scenery from under a sturdy pink parasol, her expression shifting from the curious, to enamored, to bored. It's hard to tell what she's thinking and, indeed, her thoughts are quite mixed about all this.
But she is here now, and she means to stay. To do that, Yukari must investigate, and what better way to do that than to stand in a common outdoor area and look positively lost? Surely someone will come to her aid. ]

Young men shouldn't rush so much. [ That voice is a lot closer than it should be. In fact, how she got to the point where she was walking out from a tree near his new trajectory was anyone's guess. ]

[ At first, her own surprise is apparent. If someone fell on their rear so suddenly, wouldn't that be the natural response?
But there is just something about that face of his...
No. Her luck couldn't be this good. ]

[ Just like that, the expression is gone, replaced with an amused one as she crouches down and peers at the boy. ] See what I mean?

[ Feisty. Her look shows disapproval, but that isn't the case. ] Yet I was in plain sight before.

[ Yukari rises up out of the crouch and... did something kick Reimu's behind just then? Couldn't have been her! Though hr feet are rather well-hidden by that skirt. ] You poor thing. Did you land so hard you shook your eyes loose? If you tell me what room to look for, I can escort you to the nurse's station.

I assume you are new to this school?

[ Without turning or even acknowledging her at first, Yukari continues to scan the sides of the buildings with some fascination. ] It is larger than I expected.

Considering this used to just be his family's mansion, one must wonder what they did with all that space before turning it into a school.

[ Yukari appears to be giving this some serious thought. ] That might depend on the size of his family. I hope they haven't all been displaced.

Hmm, I see. [ It's said in the way of someone interested but not really interested. She'd rather not think about her own family situation. ] It seems I did not do enough homework before my arrival.

A dreadful stain on your image, no doubt. [ Yukari can't be serious about that. ] Though neglecting the future would be even worse.

[Not that Beat even recognizes her or anything, but this chick has an umbrella. Seriously. What.]
no subject
[ Yukari knows it isn't, but tilts her head and the umbrella back just enough to get a clearer glimpse of the beautiful blue sky. ] Is that so? I was too busy to pay it any mind, so thank you for the weather forecast. [ It should be sarcasm, but she just sounds so sickeningly genuine. ]
no subject
Well, why're you hauling a big pink umbrella 'round, then?
[Gosh Beat, it's a parasol. So uncivilized.]
no subject
[ The boy is lucky she's amused, and looks it. ] Perhaps it is an act of defiance against campus rules.
Do you have a rulebook handy, that I might take a peek?
no subject
No I don't have a rulebook.
