This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

1. - Prose

Negi's working on grading papers, his red pen making a few checkmarks and a couple of circles here and there, indicating that his current class of ESL students were performing between poorly and excellent. It was here that he yawned and stretched out, reaching for his cup of tea and taking a sip -- only to cough and sputter. "Coffee?" he exclaimed in disgust. "Oh gross! And it's cold too. Who replaced my tea with coffee?"

Making a face, he got up, moving over to the sink to dump it out and brew himself a new cup of tea, only to find his personal kettle was missing. Looking around, he groaned and threw his hands up in the air. "Someone's pranking me I know it."

Welcome to the Institute and the new year everyone.
I'm Negi Springfield, your English teacher primarily, but I also teach other languages.
I hope everyone's settling in well, and I look forward to teaching you everyone.
My office hours are from 9 to 2 every day before my class, and I can be found there or around campus.
If you have any questions please ask.
Also if any clubs require sponsorship from a faculty member, I'm available with my evenings wide open.
Any questions for me before I log for the night?

[Sou sits across from his new English teacher with a grin. He then produces his assignments even though he has been out of town the entire summer for the equestrian events and being part of the club, he never missed an event.]

Done and done. Also, I should say, our club won again this year. Ever since I came here and started captaining the team, we've been undefeated since. Maybe next year, you can start calling me coach.

Well I admit that there's a lot of things you've done well with. Although we'll have to make certain the faculty is okay with it first. You know, I can't jump through too many hoops on my own.

[Despite this, Negi grinned a little.]

[This makes Sou laugh. After a few days of being back only a day from the competitions, he's in a good mood.]

Yeah, yeah, okay, Teach. You know this isn't my style talking street, but it seems to be what all the cool kids are doing. At any rate, how did your summer go?

Pretty good progress. I've found a few more leads on my father.

[it was no big secret that Negi's father was part of Ala Rubedo, a noted UN group but what was special with it was that it was one of the most public face hero groups out there. He smiled a little.] More than that, I also found leads on my mother.

Seriously? That's impressive. My dad sent me a telegram to tell me that he's not cutting me off. If you need any money for travel, let me know. No strings attached. I might be able to get you into some nice accommodations since my father owns most of the international hotel market.

Heh, I won't get to inherit it though.

I must say, hearing that you found your parents makes me a little jealous. Happy, but jealous. Were you close to them?

[There's a hint of concern because Sou has been on the side where he met with his mother for the first time and was met with contempt because of his powers as a mutant. She didn't care about him as the man he was growing up to be.]

[Negi shook his head.] I didn't know them for a long time. My dad and mom left me with my uncle Stan and my cousin Nekane when I was just a baby. It took me a long time to even hear about them, but that was when I was teaching in Japan.

I knew my dad was alive but it wasn't till I was fifteen that I heard about my mother. It's not that they abandoned me, they just left me in Wales for my own protection.

[A fat lot that did, when a anti-mutant terrorist cell attacked their village. Even with his dad driving them off, the town had been in ruins for a long time.]

[This was enough to make Sou straighten his back and listen with every fiber of his being than just casual conversation. He didn't have the same background that Negi did, but at least he could sympathize even a little.]

Is there a way to get word to them to let them know that you're still alive? What about your uncle and cousin? Are they able to tell them?

[Sou had the feeling the answer to that wasn't going to be a positive one but he asked just the same.]

I can try. There's a couple of connections I made in Japan with my students. I have at least a couple looking in on it.

[Which was better than expected due to the Yukihiro resources but still...]

So, you're absolutely sure they're in Japan?

[Sou has cousins there too, along with England, the Philippines, Taiwan, China, and Germany. All of them are in the business in one way, shape or form.]

I thought you said that they were last seen in England. I'm getting lost.

Definitely not there. They might be somewhere. The last KNOWN location was Japan, and before that England, but nothing yet.

Ah, now that makes more sense. You had me globetrotting mentally for a moment. Whew, I'm glad I wasn't losing my mind. So, with Japan in mind, I think you're on the hot trail. I just hope that it doesn't get cold on you.

Hopefully not. The clues left behind said they were headed to the States around a couple of years ago. So there's something.

Ayaka wasn't the prankster. She didn't really have the right mindset for it.

That didn't mean she didn't enjoy a good laugh at Negi's expense, as she happened to be passing by the room at that moment for some reason.

Maybe she shouldn't be drawing attention to herself like this.

Making a face, Negi looked up and his eyebrow twitched. "A-ya-ka..." he grumbled, shaking his head with a sigh. "Did you do this?"

She doesn't quite register the question for a good few seconds, still laughing at his misfortune... but when it clicks-

"M-me?!" she faltered at the question, before demanding, "Why would I even want to touch your cup?!"

She seemed to think touching other people's cups was gross, apparently, whether they had already drunken from it or not.

"Just checking," replied Negi, folding his arms. "You are a bit of a little tanuki after all."

To say it mildly.

"A.... a tanuki...?" Ayaka's eyebrow twitched at that.

She'd been called quite a few things during her ... "work" back in Japan, but tanuki?

She didn't seem to know how to take that. She wasn't sure if it was an insult, or some weird way of calling her cute, or... what.

"Yes, as in you're mischievous at times," remarked Negi, folding his arms. "But I suppose that's to be expected."

"Mischievous?" Ayaka frowned at that, "I think elegant, powerful, and beautiful suit me better."

Somebody clearly had a high opinion of herself...

"I suppose so," sighed Negi. "In any case, I should find out who replaced my cup after all."

Well, since Negi more or less agreed with her assessment, she was pacified for the moment.

"Well, good luck with that, then."

She wasn't just going to help him find a cup out of the goodness of her heart, though.

"Thanks. So what are you doing right now anyhow?" he inquired, moving to go get the cup and rinse it out.

"I was on my way to the cafeteria."

Her stomach growled at that, reminding her that perhaps she should get on with it. She seemed to scowl for a moment at that, since stomach growling didn't suit her at all!
