This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. [Cess can be found on the basketball court shooting some solo hoops. It's also a bit of training since she's using her shapeshifting abilities to get the ball back or make a slam dunk.]

All this talk of registration and the likes has me worried. I mean, whose to say they won't use the list as a way to track us down and terminate us? Or worse yet kidnap us and preform experiments on us?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid but it seems to me there's a lot of bad things that could come out having law abiding mutants register just because they're afraid of what we could do.

[Now that looks fun. He watches the display of powers with unreserved interest, and when she manages to score a particularly impressive goal, he applauds.]

Phweet! [It sounds like he's trying to whistle but doesn't quite manage it, instead making a whistle-like sound with his voice.] That was really im~press~ive!

[Cess looks over in the direction of the noise, her arms are still stretched out with the ball in hand. After a moment she retracts her arms and smiles.]

[He grins back, easy and relaxed, and does not do what his impulsive nature tells him to do, which is activate his own powers.]

Mmm? Oh, quite a while. It looks really cool, the thing you do with your arms and everything~! I hope I'm not in~tru~ding~.

[Her smile is a little uneasy. She's not sure what it is about this guy but he kind of puts her on edge.]

Oh, uh thanks. Sometimes it's handy to be made of living mercury. [She shakes her head.] No, not intruding.

[He's rather used to this reaction by now. He often makes people a bit uneasy with his mannerisms, and he's good at acting as if it doesn't bother him.]

Oh, is that what it is? It's very pre~tty, especially with that red hair. [He sounds truly admiring, if also a bit intrusively fascinated.] Is it very hard, controlling it?

[Cessily gives a bashful smile, if she could still blush you can bet she would have.]

It was at first but now it's completely natural.

[Flirting comes as easily to him as breathing, and he smiles brightly in return, tapping a bright red nail against his lips.]

Mmm, that's how it is with powers, I guess. But maybe it's a bit easier when it's your actual body than just some... weird force floating about. [A light laugh as he waves his hand airily.]

True. [She nods as she bounces the ball a couple times.] So what can you do?

[He makes a small grimace, almost apologetic.]

Mind stuff. I can... ah, change how people see me? Or don't see me, for that matter.

[It doesn't get any easier to say, he's noticed. Powers like his are definitely among the top powers that made people really, really uncomfortable. "By the way, I can mess with your mind" always sounds so terrible, but it's way better than keep silent about it. No one trusts a mutant who lies about powers like that.]

[Luckily Cessily's inorganic body makes her practically immune to such powers. Not entirely of course, but it's significantly harder for people with such powers to affect her.

She smiles and stops bouncing the ball.]

Oh. That sounds like it'd be pretty useful. [She almost seems more at ease now that she knows what he can do.]

[He relaxes a bit when he notices how unperturbed she seems. That's a nice change.]

Mm, we~ell, it means I can make teachers forget I'm in the classroom. That's pretty handy, really. [He laughs.] Not nearly as impressive as what some people can do, yourself included, but it's a nice little trick. Or a nasty one, depending, I guess~.

I doubt you'll find many who disagree with you here. If they believe people will swallow a simple promise that the required registration of a particular group will not go misused, they're forgetting their world history.

What do you intend to do about it?

There's not a lot I can do. I could protest it all I want but there's only so much protesting will do.

That and a protest could easily turn into a riot and just prove, yet again, that we are a danger. [She sighs.]

Any large gathering of people can prove to be dangerous though, with or without mutations as a variable. Tensions run high when different opinions come to face one another; someone in the crowd might have a concealed weapon, or simply the mouth to set off a squad of police. Don't let the actions of a few dictate what you fight for, not when your individual freedoms are at stake.

I don't but it does feel like a hopeless situation. It'll either pass or it won't and I don't feel there's much I can do.

I don't know. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between those two things.
