This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

That is very typist 9f y9u.

I happen t9 find this way 9f c9mmunicating 9nline t9 6e very c9mf9rta6le and m9re natural then the n9rmal way. 6esides it makes it much easier t9 identify wh9 I am am9ung every9ne here.

I guess that makes sense. But still it's kind of hard to read. Not to mention using a bright red like that is hard on people's eyes.

And what about the poor colourblind people?

sobbing with laughter Kankri why so precious and yet so dickish

[If it takes a while for him to reply, it's because he literally broke down giggling like an idiot at his computer, and had to take a time-out of the non-huggy and more gasping-for-breath kind.]

Nooooo, it's okay, I think I'm fine. You just need to think about how problem kids like me sometimes can't keep up with people like you, see? Or you could - and I hate to say this - be construed as slightly a~ble~ist.
n99neescapes: (well then)

Nope! Not at all, it's what this thing is for, no?

[personal profile] n99neescapes 2012-09-06 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
S99ry f9r the inc9nvience, it just happen t9 be my style. S9 yes, it is akin t9 a signature, if y9u were t9 l99k at it that way.

I guess I c9uld turn 9n voice video, s9 as n9t make it hard 9n you to read. Th9ugh it is n9t my preferred way 9f c9mmunicating in this venue.

[Switches video. Inster one grey skin, nubby candy-corn looking mutant.]

Is this better?

Techically, we already have a form of metahuman regulation if you consider SHIELD to act as such. And even then, mutants are decidedly more common, and thus shoulder the larger portion of public concern.

Still, when you think about how other national governments have been handling these matters, America is at least doing something, even if it doesn't seem like a very good idea. It will need work, though. And hopefully that's just what it will get once the act is introduced into congress.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm saying that as a member of the 1% of America's income tax bracket, mutants born under this umbrella are viewed as blights and are either ignored, or the mutant issue is never addressed. Parents pretend that there's not problem to other members of their social groups without ever bringing up the fact that they are mutants. You have no idea how many dinner parties I have attended where I was put aside just because I'm a mutant. My voice is never heard in such debates and I side with my own kind.

Before I came to this school, I hated what I am. I was taught that hate from my peers, family and the staff at the schools I attended. Instead of putting on my record "Mutant", they instead labeled me as a disciplinary problem. Is that fair? No. I am what I am. It took three schools and a burned down gym to realize this. My own father refuses to tell anyone that I attend Xavier's. He removed me from the family register, had me emancipated, and I'm living off the interest of my own trust fund. I have no family. My father's estate is going to my half-brother from my father's second marriage and has said that Jacob is his only son.

I'm not complaining, I'm just putting it out there.

I'm in this just the same as you are. The rich, middle-class and poor are all affected and the common thing most families do? They tell their kids that powers are bad and we shouldn't use them. Period. We are taught to ignore and hate ourselves for it because we're different. It's an irritating fact.

Those that embrace it? Good on them. At least they had the support and are taught the right way. Now, I'm not saying they don't have their own share of problems and there's no telling how many more are out there that have the same problems as you or me. In fact, I plan on taking a stand. This is my last year in high school and I plan on taking Political Science and Economics. At least there, I can try to make a difference on their own battlefield.

If it's a fight they want, I'll bring it. Make no doubt about that.

But he wanted to finish his book now... Venom's brow furrowed as he closed his book. He could just walk away and find a new table, but that probably wouldn't work.

"Have you read this series before?" A complete sentence! He was off to a decent start.

[ He's been at the Institute for while now -- around six months, at least long enough to have his feet. Currently, he's high in the branches of a tree on the grounds. It's a stance that'd be precarious for most other people, but he's crouched on a slim branch near the trunk of the tree.

Mostly obfuscated by leaves, he's waiting for someone - anyone - to pass below; he's got about a half dozen rotten apples to pelt down.

Sue him: he gets bored on weekends. :/ ]

A trigger is anything that make a pers9n relive an unf9runate, and ususally, traumatic event in their life.

It's a terri6le thing.

C9mm9n triggers include, but are n9t limted t9 (I w9uld l99k away if y9u think y9u might have any): incest, a6use, racism, mis9gyny (th9ugh s9me pe9ple might claim that misandry is 9ne t99, if it exists,) ableism, parental a6and9nment (A tricky 9ne as many mutants here seem t9 suffer fr9 that,) anything that ends with -ism and s9 forth. They sh9uld be av9ided as much as p9ssi6le, lest things 6ec9me pr96lmatic.

He gives her a grateful look, not only because whatever the problem was seems to be over but because right now she is a savior in a see of confusion.

"My brother told me too meet him in the 'shiny place with all the cool stuff in it'. I think that means the chemistry lab but with him you can never be quite sure." He sounds more amused than exasperated by his brothers vague description though. His brother has always been something of an eccentric and when it comes to the weird things he's done this doesn't even come close. Yuui has learned long ago to just go with the flow and not worry so much, things always tended to be alright in the end.

[He usually doesn't pull the "problem child" card on people, being somewhat self-conscious about the whole ADHD thing, but there is something about Kankri that makes it impossible to take a discussion with him seriously.]

See, you're always so thoughtful about things like this. It must be very hard to have all these privileges to check all~ the~ time~. Although of course I'm not suggesting that there are things that can't be triggering for you as well. I'll try to check my ignorance privilege, I guess, huh~?
