This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

[Normally, Naoto hates standing around and looking like an idiot but right now... well, standing around and looking like an idiot is probably more preferable to wandering off and getting herself more lost.

She doesn't have a map and this campus is huge and she's not entirely sure she even got directions to the girls' dormitory.

So standing around with her suitcase and looking like an idiot it is. For now.

Oh this was too perfect. This kid looked lost. That was her favorite kind of look on newbies. She stalked for a brief moment, Naoto no doubt feeling the creepy and invasive sensations of Juri's Eye on her briefly before she decided to literally pop out of nowhere and introduce herself.

"Hoo boy, you sure don't seem to be from this neck of the woods, stranger~"

She froze momentarily when she felt Juri's Eye on her and jumped when the older girl appeared suddenly.

She attempted to regain her composure with a quick cough. "I suppose you could say something to that effect. I only just arrived, actually..."

"That much was obvious. Need a guide? I just happen to have nothing better to do than guide little lost sheep around." Purposefully worded in a creepy way. This was a real winner.

If Naoto was uncomfortable, she didn't show it, aside from perhaps a split-second change in expression. "I'd highly appreciate it, thank you." Something about Juri certainly didn't sit right with the detective, but Naoto wasn't about to turn down help right now.

"I guess I should ask where it is you wanted to go before I go and run you off a cliff." Juri tapped a finger to her chin, looking around as if searching something out.

[Well, luckily for him, she managed to pick up that hesitant "um" that clearly wasn't in English, so she'll do him a favor and respond in Japanese!]

Help would be much appreciated, yes. Do you happen to know which way the girls' dorms are from here?

Y-yes, I do! I'm not good with explaining directions, so would you like me to show you?

Are you a new student here?

I am. I just arrived this afternoon. Have you been here long?

I've been enrolled since February this year.

So a decent length of time, but not too long... I see. Have you found your time enjoyable thus far?

[Well, put it this way, short stuff-- standing around looking clueless will probably net you more help than standing around looking like you're about to bite someone's head off-- even if you're in the same situation!

...Well, not exactly the same. Naoto at least knows a hell of a lot more about speaking in English than Kanji does, and... to be honest, it's intimidating as hell, being in another country all of a sudden and not knowing how to communicate!

He could swear he's seen this person before-- in passing, of course-- but where? God, that's going to bug him.

[She's felt this guy's eyes on her for the longest time and it's.

[Kanji's not sure what's more surprising-- that this kid's speaking in a language he understands, or that he got a response at all.]

I ain't staring!! You just--- looked familiar, or whatever! A guy's allowed t'look!

You were staring and it was making me uncomfortable.

[Don't mind her if she's a little snappish, she's just tired and has a headache.]

... Though, you do look rather familiar. I'm certain we haven't met, but... [You know, she'll just. Wander over that way so she can get a better look.]

[Oh. Oh shit. Here they come. Kanji grips the handle on his suitcase a bit defensively, frowning hard.]

Y'see what I'm sayin', right? [Hey, Naoto, now would be a great time for those powers to kick in! Because guess who was on TV for beating up punks in his neighborhood?]

[Yeah, the wheels in her head have indeed been turning! She remembers that program and the exact time it was showing.]

... You were shown on TV. You're... from Inaba, right?

...You saw that, huh? Just for the record, that show's full a' shit.

[He mumbles, quietly embarrassed. Of all the things to be recognized for, even here..]

I only had the television on for background noise that night to be entirely honest.

The only reason I really remember was... Well. [There's an uncomfortable pause.] Well, it's... [Cough.] The reason I'm here. Eidetic memory is part of my... mutation...
