This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. Early in the morning of his first day, Jackie can be found in the main courtyard in front of the Spirit of Change statue. Dressed in more traditional Chinese attire, Jackie begins going through the first, and most well known of the tai chi forms. Eyes shut, his movements are slow and fluid, his entire focus being on the way each step and motion flows naturally into the other.

Of course, such focus would mean he isn't really paying much attention to anything else so he'd likely not realize anyone was around until he stopped or they made their presence known.

[Later on that same day, after he's had a shower and other people have had a chance to actually wake up, Jackie starts the video with a light smile.]

Hello! Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well!

My name is Jackie Chan. I am an archaeologist and researcher specializing in ancient civilizations and their relics. I will be helping with the current archaeology class and history classes as well. I look forward getting to know you all.

Honestly, being a fox and all, this would be the perfect opportunity for a trick. He was pretty much asking for it, absorbed as he was in his forms. But instead, Ran just took a seat just off to the side and watched. There was actually something fascinating about the way he moved, the way his energy flowed...

Jackie tended to be an easy target in general and he'd thank her for not succumbing to the temptation if he'd known.

After several minutes of silent movement, he finally came to a stop in the very same position he'd started in. Releasing a slow, gentle breath, his eyes opened to find that he'd gained an audience.

"Oh! Good morning! I didn't expect to see anyone else out this early."

"I tend to wake up early out of habit, even if my daughter lives in the dorms and doesn't need me to make certain her morning is off to the right start." Nevermind that she text's Chen every morning with her routine so that she won't forget. "So I find myself with more free time."

"It's a habit for me as well. It must be nice getting to stay here with your daughter," or so he might assume. He has no children of his own, but he does have a niece and he's admittedly looking forward to what he's hoping will be a bit of a reprieve from her brand of mischief.

One could only imagine what a playdate between Chen and Jade would be like...

"How long have you been a practitioner, by the way?" Ran continued the conversation along its original path, not wanting to tangent it into herself.

If he knew the potential, he'd likely never allow Jade in the state. As Ran turned the conversation back to him, Jackie simply smiled politely.

"Almost all my life. I was taught by my uncle when I was a boy."

"I've always loved the Chinese styles. I taught myself some Taichi when I was young, though I think I would have done much better with an actual master." Those, of course, cost money, though. And she was homeless.

"Your forms were nearly perfect. You could easily teach a class on it here at the Institute, if you hadn't already considered it."

"Oh? Perhaps you could join me one morning? I don't think I'd want to teach this as a class, though I'd gladly give lessons for the benefit of anyone interested in learning."

Besides, he'd taken a glimpse at the curriculum and seen several classes focusing on combat already, so he wasn't looking to add to the list.

"Assuming I have another morning like this? I'd be more than happy to." Ran chuckled, taking a bow.

"Ran Yakumo, mathematics."

Will you be teaching the middle school level classes? Archaeology sounds really cool, but back home at least all the classes with it in 'em were for high schoolers.

[Janice has a bit of a Southern accent, but she's trying not to let it be blatant while she's around so many new people. Still, in her seriousness - because new classes to investigate are serious business - she slips back into it.]

Well, usually you would need a pretty strong history background to start studying archaeology....[But Jackie's not used to having a young person actually interested in the subject.]

But I wouldn't mind altering the subject to be a bit more accessible for middle school levels.

Really? [Her round face lights up. An entire new subject, based out of her favorite subject and not something boring like Math. Today just got infinitely more awesome.] I would appreciate it a lot, sir. I've read books on it, but it's not the same as bein' taught by a guy who did it. And I'm sure other kids would be interested, too.

[Well, that enthusiasm certainly was genuine and it pleased Jackie all the more. He certainly hoped there were other students as interested as she was.]

It will take me a little time to adjust the material, but it should be ready before the start of the next semester.

[She looks at him as if he's promised her the new. A brand new course with things in it she wouldn't normally get to until she was in high school? She's the kind of person who reads encyclopedias for fun. This is a miracle.]

Thank you so, so much sir! My name's Janice, Janice Damasio. It's really great to meet you.

[He smiled and nodded before extending his hand to her.]

It is good to meet you Miss Damasio. I look forward to having you in my class.

[She took Jackie's hand in her own darker one, nodding back at him firmly.] I can't want to be in your class. You can just call me Janice, though, or Jan. Everybody does, Mr. Chan.

Kanji's a bit of an early riser himself, and since he'd arrived at the school he'd taken to walks around the campus, venturing out a little further each time. This morning, though, he stops short, distracted by the man practicing in the courtyard.

Tai chi, right? It was so different from Kanji's way of... well, doing just about anything outside his-- erm. Hobbies.

It's like something out of a movie. He wants to say something, but the combination of language barriers and really not wanting to break the guy's concentration keeps him shut up-- at least til he's done.

When Jackie has finished the form, he notices Kanji standing off to the side. He hadn't been expecting anyone to come by, but he smiled cordially enough and gave a wave of his hand.

"Good morning."

[A teenage boy and a humanoid dinosaur stop near Jackie and watch him go through his forms. They're both carrying large, beat-up backpacks and have the disheveled look of two guys who've been roughing it for a while.

They watch Jackie for a bit in silence, trying to figure out what style the forms come from before the teenager finally speaks up.]

Tai chi?
