This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

[So this kid. This kid.

Classes are out and this kid is happily zooming around by the lake, running across the grass with his arms outstretched, sunglasses over his eyes and a cape tied around his neck.

Yes, seriously. A cape. Don't even ask.

It's a Friday and forget homework, okay. It's the weekend tomorrow and right now? Right now it's play time.

He punches the air, each one accompanied with a 'pew pew pew' noise as he pretends to take out bad guys, giant grin plastered on his face.]

[And who happens to be in the trees watching this caped kid play?

None other than one confused bird. Venom just watches in awe, wondering why this boy's running around. Is that what 'playing' looks like?]

[This most certainly is what playing looks like. Charlie is twelve and still very much a kid; he does what he wants.

His zooming takes him by the tree and that's when he finally notices he has a watched. Unperturbed, he stops and waves happily.]

Hey, there!

[Oh, to be that age. Venom's only two years older and he's never really played before. Books and jerk families will do that.

He waves back.]

H-hi.

[Charlie keeps waving back probably to the point that it becomes awkward, but doesn't seem to mind.

Eventually, when his arm gets tired, he drops it and looks around at the lake with a satisfied nod.]

I beat all the bad guys up. You don't have to hide in the tree anymore, if you don't wanna.

[Yep. Still staying in character.]

Oh, I'm not hiding. I'm just reading.

[Bad guys? What was he talking about?]

It's about North American birds. I didn't realize just how diverse the avian population is in this country.

[Janice watches curiously, and after a moment of internal debate, she decides to go over to him and just ask.]

'Course you can! [He stops in his air punching, grinning brightly. The more the merrier, always.

Charlie sizes the other kid up after a moment, adopting a more scrutinizing look.] Think you can keep up in bad guy punching?

Thanks, even if she'll have to be AU'd hard to go to the Institute.

[She draws herself up to full height - which doesn't say much, since she's short - and adopts a serious face.] I can punch bad guys! Jus' give me a chance!

[She may be twelve, but she's not too old to engage in this kind of play. If anything, after dealing with the Skin Taker and her mutation, she wants to play more than ever. Age appropriateness is a foreign concept.]

[Ryuuichi recognizes what Charlie's up to, and he smiles slightly. Charlie looks too old for Ryuuichi to treat him like a kid, but the way he's playing is triggering Ryuuichi's Big Brother Instinct anyways and he calls out to Charlie.]

[He can be understood, but he has a strong Japanese accent despite using very slangy English.]
