This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

I only had the television on for background noise that night to be entirely honest.

The only reason I really remember was... Well. [There's an uncomfortable pause.] Well, it's... [Cough.] The reason I'm here. Eidetic memory is part of my... mutation...

Kanji's a bit of an early riser himself, and since he'd arrived at the school he'd taken to walks around the campus, venturing out a little further each time. This morning, though, he stops short, distracted by the man practicing in the courtyard.

Tai chi, right? It was so different from Kanji's way of... well, doing just about anything outside his-- erm. Hobbies.

It's like something out of a movie. He wants to say something, but the combination of language barriers and really not wanting to break the guy's concentration keeps him shut up-- at least til he's done.

[...Long, awkward pause. What the hell does 'eidetic' even mean?]

...Uh.

Mine's... um... stuff doesn't hurt me. I guess.

... ... Err. I mean... I have an unnaturally outstanding memory... in a way. I can recall things that have happened and notice things that I might not have realized prior.

Superhuman durability? [Or something like that.]

Huh! That's, uh... pretty impressive. ...Really impressive.

And yeah, sounds about right. [A short huff.] I wouldn't really call it super, though. Not when it gets ya sent halfway around the world to some snobby 'Institute' because they think y'might be dangerous...

[Flatly.] It's not nearly as wonderful when it's coupled with enhanced senses.

If it is beyond the peak of what most people can deal with, I would indeed consider it superhuman. I'd certainly rather not be here myself but Grampa presented me with little choice in the matter.

If Naoto was uncomfortable, she didn't show it, aside from perhaps a split-second change in expression. "I'd highly appreciate it, thank you." Something about Juri certainly didn't sit right with the detective, but Naoto wasn't about to turn down help right now.

But yeah. Just not used to how relaxed things are around here, I guess. [Her voice is equally ambiguous, and accompanied by a shrug.]

[She turns at his voice, and stares a little at his appearance. For just a moment, she seems pensive before she smiles brightly. He is so cool, she thinks as she nods a little sheepishly.]

Yeah. I'm new here, and this is way bigger than my old school. Would ya mind helpin' me out?

[Her Southern accent aside, her voice is friendly and cheerful, like being lost is by no means something to panic over.]
