This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

[The video starts and there's a few muffled voices as the camera's moved about, the two voices appearing to be having a disagreement before one side clearly wins and a boy in his early teens is holding the device.

He has skin the color of slate and eyes which are black rather than white with yellowish-green irises. Looking off camera, he takes a breath then looks back.]

Um, hi...I'm Skaar.


[Action]

[Given free reign to explore, Skaar can be found wandering the halls with no clear sign of direction. He still wasn't exactly sold on the idea that this place was better for him than being with his own father, but Bruce had done nothing but sing the praises of Xavier's Institute and so he'd agreed to give it a try. He wonders what sort of people he might run into in a place like this.

Eventually, after growing tired of being inside, he'd make his way outside. Finding the openness of nature at least a bit more familiar than the corridors of the building itself, he takes a deep breath and sighs contentedly.]

[In response, the boy gets a girl probably no older than twelve beaming at him.] Hi, Skaar! I'm Eve.

[This is admittedly way more cheerfulness than he was expecting and he wonders if perhaps this is a joke.]

Uh...hi, Eve.

[Nah, this girl's just far too friendly.]

Are you a new student here? It's nice to meet you.

I am. How long have you been here?

[braveredrose]

I got here towards the start of February, so not very long.

I see. [Then, as an afterthought since Dad's told him all about those manners and such.]

-The voice doesn't seem to come from anywhere in particular. In fact, it seems to change where it was originating from as the words poured out, no break in the sentence but definitely coming from a source that was rapidly changing position...-

[Frozen in place, he looks every part the startled animal, every part of him tensed in preparation of either fighting or fleeing.]

-He gets a chuckle in return, the voice eventually settling on one spot, a violet spark accompanying her eventual appearance. Her left eye flashed as she came into view.-

Sup, handsome.

Hi... [Well, she didn't attack him and she is here in the school so she shouldn't be seen as a threat. But something instinctive keeps him on edge, something inside.

He then recalls that she referred to him as a "celebrity student".]

Come on, kid. You'd have to be blind not to notice the, ah... "family resemblance".

So you know my father then.

[Of course, anyone with cable had likely seen footage of his father, or rather his big, green counterpart.]

[And with that deep breath comes the smell of someone who hasn't bathed or changed his clothes in months.

A short redheaded boy is crouched nearby, in shorts and sleeveless shirts despite the weather, happily eating a freshly killed rabbit who had the misfortune of needing to come out for food when Apollo was hungry.]

[That scent cuts his breath short, though fortunately (or unfortunately) it's not quite enough to make him gag. Walking over to where he hears the sound of someone eating, he looks down at Apollo in confusion.]

Are you a student here?

[Action]

[gotthescent]

[Apollo looks up at the new scent and voice. He doesn't wait until he's swallowed to reply, so his response is a little hard to understand.]

Yeah. You just get here? Ain't smelled your scent around before.

[Action]

[Skaar nods in answer to Apollo's question before asking another of his own.]

Why are you a rabbit out here?

[He would've assumed the place would have plenty to eat so the students don't have to go foraging, but he could be wrong.]

[Apollo swallows the meat that's in his mouth and bites into the rabbit again, tearing off another piece.]

Cuz I was hungry and felt like something fresher 'an what's in the cafeteria.

[Said like it's completely normal to do something like this.]

[Well, that answer makes sense. When you're hungry, you get food. The fact that he chose to get it from someplace else is irrelevant.]

[Marrow's bone-crusted face fills the screen, entirely too close to the camera for her to be used to using the video.]

I like yer name, but I don't see no scars. Don't make sense.

[He blinks a moment before, reaching up to his shoulder and pulling it over to reveal a portion of the markings which cover his irght arm and shoulder]

Psh. Safe. Right. 's as safe as any place is fer spikes, I guess. I know safer places, but what can ya do.

Jes' is. Only good thing's th' constant food. Ain't found another reason t' stay here, but I gotta. So what can ya do, y'know?
