This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

[ She accepts a pencil with a small flash of a smile, one of her 'teacher smiles', but the comment that comes with it startles her.

Silence.

She should say something. But she hadn't actually expected to get any replies to her 'skippy list' in person. Communicating in text was so much easier than being face to face with someone. Text meant no words were getting stuck in her throat and clawing at her to be let out. It meant that, sometimes, a little whisper of 'Melinda' seeped through. She swallows, clears her throat, smiles a bit helplessly at her and shrugs. Then, finally, she manages to find some words. ] 

I made this, in accordance with the prophecy. [ She turns her sketchbook so that Reki can see what she's done. She holds her breath. Maybe this was too much? Would she get in trouble? ]

[ He can turn invisible. That would be a nice power to have, to be able to hide so that no one could find her. But it also made him dangerous. She would not be able to see him coming.

She wants to glare at him. Wants to tell him that 'No, she's not okay. He almost scared her to death'. Little rabbit heart pounding in her chest. Instead she ruffles through her bag for an eraser to remove the line she made, avoiding his eyes. ]

Well, I'm sorry anyway. How long have you been drawing?

"Of course you can be too nice." Wow some people... you start to really really remind her of her father :| You'll make things harder on your family if you are like that. "You have to look after your own weelbeing and health and financial stability before reaching out to help others, and then when the helping would do more harm to you than it would help them you still shouldn't do it if you could." The shrug that goes with the words indicates that she doesn't care too much if he follows her words or not, though - she is kind of used to that kind of advice falling on deaf ears.

She raises her head and looks at him, one eyebrow raised, head slightly cocked. What was that amused reaction for? Or at least she assumes that it was that.

There's certainly no great overlap between Reki's informal style and Cyclops's strict one. Thus she has to suppress a giggle at the drawing.

"For you are the Kwisatz Haderach." She says with a wink. "Good use of comic exaggeration. Now can you do it in the more realistic style we covered last month?"

He tries to look serious, and succeeds in plastering his normal, lineface expression back on.

"Ah, how did this happen?"

[ WHY IS HE STILL TALKING TO HER? WHY IS HE STILL THERE? She glances around the room, trying to take comfort in the fact that there are other people there. She shrugs again. ] 

Kindergarden. [ She knows that wasn't what he meant. Everyone draws in kindergarden. She draws a kindergarden version of a tree on the edge of the paper. ]

[ Who? The question is clearly written on her face even though she doesn't ask about it.

She tilts her head a bit at the question and bites her lip. ] 

Maybe. I'm better with trees. [ Though she still has no idea of how to "breath life" into her drawings. ]

Reki wonders what it is with kids these days and their lack of knowledge of cheesed out 80s attempts to ride the Star Wars wave.

"First you draw him as a caricature, then you call him wooden? Even I think you're being a little harsh on Old One Eye."

She found this kind of gentle teasing a good way to get certain students engaged. Perhaps Melinda was one of them.

No wonder you're so good, then. [He smiles, and holds up a finger, moving it as if drawing a flower on his cheek and focusing really hard, actually managing to leave a bright pink flower there for a few moments before it fades.]

Most people only doodle, though. You're drawing. I think there's a difference.

Well, okay, so Sabitsuki is the closest thing to a shut-in that they'll actually allow at this place. Terminal illnesses can do that to a girl, you know?
But for once she's actually outside, presumably skipping a class she's not fond of, or maybe it's a passing period and she's getting some air.

And maybe your mental defenses are low enough to get hit by her accidental projection. Suddenly, looking over, she might be a cat. Or maybe her guts are spilling out.
Or maybe she's half machine. It's all in your head, of course - accidental psychic projection and all - but it might still be a little weird.
Feel free to freak out! Or, you know, try and help her find her apparently missing limbs.
