This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

"You can fly?" she excitedly gasped. If he was flame resistant, that opened him up to a whole world of possibilities. Oh, the things he could do once he hit his stride. Pyrokinetics were so very talented. "That means you must heat the air around you so much that it lifts you. That is incredible."
Really, it was. And Lorna desperately wanted to see it in action. "Perhaps I could help you. If...you would like me to." Her hand was still on his arm. Smiling a little nervously now, she tucked some of her fluffy hair behind her ear. "I can, uhm...fly, too."

He managed to stop himself before he called it 'all that geek stuff', since she was attractive and nice, and apparently smart too. In spite of all that, she was still eagerly chatting with him. This was clearly a sign to give the Xavier Institute a chance. He made a mental note to himself that if he signed up for science class, that he should make sure to copy Lorna's notes. Or maybe he could ask her to tutor him. It was a good excuse to spend more time with her.
"Yeah...that'd be great. We could hang out while flying around together."
Hopefully he'd be able to stay in the air at least as long as she could.

Noticing that she had probably been lingering too long, Lorna took her hand off the poor boy. She planted it very firmly back on her bag.
"I would, uhm...like that, too. Flying together and doing the hanging out." The moment that left her mouth, she cringed. "I...said that wrong." With that, she blushed deeper. She remembered when first impressions were easy, mostly because they didn't involve very muscular teenage boys.

"You got the important part right," he assured her. Namely the part where she agreed.
"So...got a boyfriend who's going to get mad at me for flying around with his girl, or...?"
Better to ask now and save himself some embarrassment later in case she was one of those people with a high school sweetheart that she'd been with forever.

"Oh, no. I am no one's girl," she told him. "To be completely honest, I have never had the best luck with men."
Oh how she wanted that to change. She was a rather tall girl, and on top of that she wore heels more often than not. Right now, she liked how she still had to look up at Hotstreak.
"And I may fly around with whomever I choose. If anyone gets angry, well..." She puffed out her chest a bit and tried to look more serious. "I can be very stern myself." Immediately after that, she laughed.

When she talked about being stern, though, he couldn't help but crack up laughing. It helped that she was laughing herself, but he had a hard time picturing her being anything other than polite and slightly timid.
"You. Stern. No offense, Lorna, but I'll believe it when I see it."

"People say I have a way with surprises." Thankfully, this boy didn't have to see her incident with the Brotherhood. Some people still were having a hard time talking to her like they used to. Here was to new beginnings and new friends, perhaps some of the male persuasion who didn't want to borrow her clothes.
"Perhaps you will see some, if you get to know me better." Those words left her mouth so smoothly, and then she realized it. Immediately, she started blushing again. "You know, uhm, if you would...like that."

"Let's start with your phone number and making plans for this weekend."
no subject
"Oh, yes. My telephone number. That would...be helpful." Quickly, she dug a notebook and pen out of her bag. She jotted down her number and wrote her name above it in cursive. It didn't even occur to her that he could just take out his own phone and enter it in. Technology was not a big influence in her life. She ripped off that part of the page and offered him the paper.
"This weekend sounds lovely. Perhaps I could also," she pursed her lips in a pause, then smiled meekly, "give you a tour of the Institute? I have not been here long, but I've always had a capital sense of direction."

All thoughts of getting to math class on time were already right out the window, but he reasoned that it was all in the name of learning his way around and starting off open to making new friends, just like his therapist encouraged him to be.
(ooc: Want to wrap it up here? We can assume they were both horribly late for class that day)

And...
She could feel her heart start to race right before she took his arm, resting her hand against his bicep. He was just so warm. Oh, and he smelled nice, too. Well, if her teacher was cross with her, Lorna was just doing her duty to show a new student around the school. This was making him feel more welcome, right?
"Well, on the left we have a science lab, and to your right is a very good likeness of a Monet..."
(ooc: Sounds perfect!)
