This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

"And they smell better too!" Which was the best insult her adrenaline-addled brain could come up with as she drew a wooden cavalry saber from her back, where it had been hidden by her hoodie. This, and the fact that Utena was definitely now sparkling like she'd just stepped out of a panel of Rose Of Versailles was the generally agreed on signal that shit had just gotten quite real. Of course her first victim called her a bitch through split lips as she drove it down in a vicious diagonal-downward arc. She was on him in a moment with a rapid series of blows that owed a lot more to escrima than classical fencing, not giving poor Chad a chance to recover his bearings. Naturally the other two hurried over to her, but they struck only glancing blows as she backstepped expertly to shove Chad into one of his companions, then dropped a blow on the other that forced his guard up high enough that he didn't expect to be shoulder tripped and his foot reaped out from under him with such force, pratfalling back to give himself a small concussion.
There was still a fourth bro to be accounted for though, who'd taken the liberty of trying to seize Fai's relatively slight frame in a full nelson.

Well, that was all good right until the point where his arms where hoisted up rather brutally, a pair of meaty, sweaty hands pressed against his neck and causing him to wince in disgust. But the other guy was stronger and he was utterly helpless... that was, would have been if he hadn't already established eye contact before this, giving his power a foothold. It was easy enough to find the buttons for guys like this, especially since this one had attacked him from behind, meaning he was cowardly enough not to meet even a skinny faggot mutie head on.
This time, he didn't use vague intimidation, but instead cranked it up to pure fear, laced with heavy doses of revulsion and just a little bit of shame to really confuse him. The guy shot away from him within seconds, eyes wide with sudden and inexplicable horror, and Fai turned around with a bright smile and nodded at him. "Now, why don't you run off before I give you a big sloppy kiss right on the mouth, okay?"

When they were safely gone, she replaced the wooden waster (tch, blood! sensei was gonna chew her out for that!) and went over to Fai. He'd looked so helpless but apparently he had a trick or two up his long sleeves.
"Are you alright?"
The viciousness of a few seconds was gone now, replaced with an awkward kind of compassion.

"Definitely fine, just a bit ruffled," he replied in a carefree sing-song. "I hadn't expected them to be quite so... forward out in public. Looks like I was lucky that a knight in shining armor happened to walk past, right?"

"It's totally no problem. I'm Utena Tenjou, by the way." She thrust her hand out, western style. She had a firm handshake, like a dad or a football player. "What'd you do to that last guy?"
no subject
"Fai Flourite. And, mm, I really just changed his impression of me a tiny little bit. Not much, he wouldn't have attacked if he wasn't a bit scared of me, I simply made sure that he was... well, more scared of me." He shrugged lightly. "Is the sparkling a part of your power? Because you looked so~ cool~."
no subject
"I think so. I don't know too much about it. That's one of the reasons i'm here. So you can make people scared of you?"
She gave him a crooked little smile back. It was always so weird coming down from the state her power put her in, when she was more archetype than girl. Everyone else here seemed so familiar and easy with theirs...

"Well, you're not alone. Most people don't really know what they're doing when they arrive at the school. You'll work it out soon enough." His lips quirked slightly, eyes flashing gold for a second before returning to neutral blue. "And I can do that. Or I can make them admire me, be attracted to me, hate me... or just forget about me. But neither of those would have worked really well in that particular situation - or at least not as well as fear."

Admire me, be attracted to me... That set something off though and she remembered. Dark fingers in her mind, slicing with a surgeon's skill. How much of what she'd thought and felt had been real then? Down that way lay difficulties Descartes had never dreamed of. She was somewhere else for that moment...

People knowing sometimes made them uncomfortable in his presence, but it was nothing compared to what they felt if they found out later in their acquaintance with him. He would rather not have his friends second-guess every single moment spent with him, wondering how genuine their emotions truly had been.

"Sorry. It's not your fault. That's just...happened to me before."
