This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

He could have done worse, sure. But that didn't change the fact that she was picking at his lunch already. He sighed.

"...Ran." From the sounds of things, that was the only answer she was getting. "How many times do I have to tell you? If you want me to make you aburage, ask while I'm still in the kitchen."

He had given up on avoiding mooching altogether, but that didn't mean it wasn't so much more convenient when he could easily make more.

"It's hardly in a fox's nature to beg for food, Archer-san." She gave a teasing smile. At least she'd make it up to him later. But some things you just can't hide from her. And fried tofu was one of those things. It's like part of her mutant power was a fried tofu radar that just homed in on it.

"They must be thieves instead of beggars, then." He didn't sound as bothered as his words might have implied, though. Maybe it was because he was resigned, or maybe it was because he did have some faith that she would pay him back in some fashion, but... Submitting to his fate, he set his lunch down between the two of them.

And then a face of mock offense. "Archer-san! I am no thief! I simply borrow. Goodness, how rude!" Though her laugh probably solidified the indication that she wasn't actually bothered by his assessment.

"Ah, of course, of course. Silly me. It's just that borrowing without permission is so similar, it's hard to tell sometimes." Though he did wonder... "To be serious, is there something you need, or are you just here to 'borrow' my food?"

"What, I can't just want to share your company? Really now, Archer-san, you seem to be out to offend me." Keeping up that facade nicely, it seemed.

"Now, now. I never said wanting to share my company wasn't a valid answer. I'd just prefer to know upfront."

"I should hope so. Because that's really all it is. Men these days just can't seem to imagine a woman wanting the have lunch with them without ulterior motives. What is our world coming to..." Ran let out a false sigh, shaking her head.

Well, if that was how things were going to be, he might as well joke back. "Putting it like that is just going to make me suspicious, you know. There's such a thing as protesting too much."

That got a good laugh out of her. "And what would people think, hmm? Rumors fly about this place quite quickly, you know. Perhaps you're trying to take advantage of me~"

And, in reply, he pretended to look thoughtful. Rumors? Clearly, this was a matter of grave importance. "Ah, but isn't the cliche supposed to be the other way around? It's not often that a man's cooking is given credit for winning over a woman."

"I suppose that means we're safe then. Just two friends enjoying a lunch together. And if anyone else protests, then they'll just have to go read more bad romance novels for their fix." Ran chuckled, more honestly this time, though she did so while snatching yet another bit of food.
