This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.
Reki | Haibane Renmei
Your education can't be all lasers and punches. Reki isn't so much your hippie art teacher as she is your hipster art teacher. She has you listen to indie bands and paint in rythm to them. She can probably snark back at you with the same intensity you bring to it and puts many a would be wiseass back in their chair, blushing and stammering. And if you truly hate art, she'll let you dick around on your phone and turn in a stick figure if you want.
How do you take this class? Thrive in the relaxed atmosphere or flail at the lack of discipline?
[2]
After school, when it's dark, she can be found on the rooftop, smoking and watching the moon. She cuts quite the mournful figure, sillhouetted by it. But if she notices you, she'll turn and grin.
If you notice the ends of her wing feathers have started to get black, from their normal grey, it's probably best not to mention it.

Because fried food is definitely better for you than cigarettes. At least it's tofu. And hell, Ran was pleasant company regardless. She wasn't about to let Reki spend another night alone up here moping. That wouldn't do at all.

x-menability to show up where she was least expected, although in Ran's case it was more due to a quiet step than teleportation. She put a smile on and took the fried treat. She was still under the delusion that Ran didn't notice her brooding up here. "Thanks. Been a while since I had one of these."

"I think I've given up on telling you what a nasty habit that is."

"Aww, c'mon..." She stubbed out her hand-rolled anyway. "These are pure American Spirits...which is weird I guess, neither of us are American. I think." She had, of course, no way to be certain. And so frequently the motherer of all her lost boys and girls, she was unused to anyone else showing even momentary concern for her, accounting for her momentarily losing her smoothness.

"Let's see...Hakurei keeps falling asleep and when he's awake keeps asking me how art is supposed to help him get rich. That kid's like a tiny Tony Robbins. Mizuhashi lurks in the corner and practically has a spasm whenever anyone paints better than her. Hitsugaya paints and draws like a robot. It's like, Is this visual representation acceptable, human teacher? Beat actually puts some effort into it, mainly because I know he's out tagging on the town. Which is the sort of thing teachers are supposed to stop, but hey, at least he's making something. Cocteau offered to be the class's nude model. Egbert actually does some pretty good fanart for crappy 80s movies. I'm thinking of getting them made into t-shirts. Margatroid keeps bringing her dolls with her to class and it's creeping me out. Hoshiguma has punched through more canvasses than I can count."
Whoops. That had just come tumbling out.

She let out another little sigh, tails swaying a bit. Couldn't keep avoiding the point forever... They didn't have all night. "But... are you alright? You seemed to be in poor spirits before I showed up. You know if you need to talk about anything, I've got ears to spare."

Caught. How to play it off? She wouldn't believe her if she just pretended everything was fine. Well a better lie had a kernel of truth in it, after all.
"It's nothing. The moon just reminded me of an old boyfriend. He was kindof an idiot but sometimes I still miss him."
The ends of her wings blackened almost imperceptibly, like Pinocchio's nose.

"If you're going to lie, you need a better one than that... But I figure if you're lying at all, you really don't want to talk about it, so I won't pry. But I worry, you know?" It was hard keeping her maternal instincts in check. It was hard and no one understood.

uuuuuult. Nosy, just like Rakka. Another burned bridge."You don't need to worry. But thanks. You're sweet." Genuinely, she thinks.

"Chen is doing... so wonderfully. She's making friends, doing well in her classes. She's not ashamed of who she is anymore. I've never been happier for her."
that's awesome, Chen
"That's good to hear. She's in good hands with you and Yakumo."
To tell the truth, Reki didn't quite get what Ran and Yukari's relationship was, though she had her suspicions.
honk honk
Yukari raised her own wifeTheir relationship would probably remain that mysterious, really. Yukari spoke in riddles, and Ran never said more than what was needed."Well, to be honest, I think it's mostly this place that helps her. Yukari and I can only do so much. Being around her own kind... that's what is inspiring her smiles these days."

Whenever Reki walks by or one of the other students tries to sneak a look at her work, all of the light appears to escape from the canvas, masking Midori's project in a sheet of black to prevent it from being seen until she's actually ready to show what she's got.
Which admittedly isn't actually that much. Again, not much of an art person.

"What are you doing." Sassy grey haibane.

She would have preferred a seat over by one of the corners of the room to reduce the need to do something like that, but the seat she had now was one of the last ones available as the rest were already taken.

"You got it." She could call attention to her and humiliate her, but that wouldn't be what a good Haibane did.
She came back when the class was over.

So, when Reki returned this time, the canvas was not masked in the same way it had been multiple times before earlier in the class. The image that now sat on it wasn't particularly bad, but it wasn't anything really mind-blowing either. It was a simple image of what looked to be a school's auditorium, which itself was done well enough, though the little figures meant to represent the kids on the stage could probably use a little work. The interesting part of the image, however, was the seemingly-random circles of blue, white, and yellow that were laid out on top of everything else.
Before anything could be said, Midori shrugged and spoke up. "Painting isn't really something I like, but since it's part of the course, I can't really argue against doing it." Considering she chose to take the class.
Just wait for her to figure out how this class ties into one of the possible uses for her power. She might enjoy it a bit more then.
