Your education can't be all lasers and punches. Reki isn't so much your hippie art teacher as she is your hipster art teacher. She has you listen to indie bands and paint in rythm to them. She can probably snark back at you with the same intensity you bring to it and puts many a would be wiseass back in their chair, blushing and stammering. And if you truly hate art, she'll let you dick around on your phone and turn in a stick figure if you want.

How do you take this class? Thrive in the relaxed atmosphere or flail at the lack of discipline?

[2]

After school, when it's dark, she can be found on the rooftop, smoking and watching the moon. She cuts quite the mournful figure, sillhouetted by it. But if she notices you, she'll turn and grin.

If you notice the ends of her wing feathers have started to get black, from their normal grey, it's probably best not to mention it.

"Aburage?"

Because fried food is definitely better for you than cigarettes. At least it's tofu. And hell, Ran was pleasant company regardless. She wasn't about to let Reki spend another night alone up here moping. That wouldn't do at all.

Reki whipped her head around to where the other teacher had suddenly appeared. Like her friend Yakumo, she had an uncanny x-men ability to show up where she was least expected, although in Ran's case it was more due to a quiet step than teleportation.

She put a smile on and took the fried treat. She was still under the delusion that Ran didn't notice her brooding up here. "Thanks. Been a while since I had one of these."

"Consider it a gift from Inari herself," the fox giggled, settling in beside the other woman, tails fanning out a bit before curling back around for warmth. She let out a long sigh, taking in the sight of the night sky. Beautiful...

"I think I've given up on telling you what a nasty habit that is."

"First time a god's ever given me anything they didn't want interest on..." She said under her breath, almost inaudibly.

"Aww, c'mon..." She stubbed out her hand-rolled anyway. "These are pure American Spirits...which is weird I guess, neither of us are American. I think." She had, of course, no way to be certain. And so frequently the motherer of all her lost boys and girls, she was unused to anyone else showing even momentary concern for her, accounting for her momentarily losing her smoothness.

"So it's a fancier way of dirtying up your mouth, then? Well, I suppose there's no accounting for taste." A barb, but a well-meaning one, if Ran's expression was any indication. "I suppose I should ask how things are going with your students so far. Any interesting projects?"
hipsterbane: (adjusting the mask)

[personal profile] hipsterbane 2012-12-06 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Reki was sorely tempted to blow smoke at Ran, but didn't want to chance her actually having a coughing fit. "Great, i'm getting a health lecture from a pokemon. Didn't I see you eating grilled eels the other day? Jesus, you wanna talk about dirtying your mouth..." Reki was, of course, well aware that kitsune traditionally had nine tails and that was where pokemon had gotten it but wanted to get Ran's goat at least a little.

"Let's see...Hakurei keeps falling asleep and when he's awake keeps asking me how art is supposed to help him get rich. That kid's like a tiny Tony Robbins. Mizuhashi lurks in the corner and practically has a spasm whenever anyone paints better than her. Hitsugaya paints and draws like a robot. It's like, Is this visual representation acceptable, human teacher? Beat actually puts some effort into it, mainly because I know he's out tagging on the town. Which is the sort of thing teachers are supposed to stop, but hey, at least he's making something. Cocteau offered to be the class's nude model. Egbert actually does some pretty good fanart for crappy 80s movies. I'm thinking of getting them made into t-shirts. Margatroid keeps bringing her dolls with her to class and it's creeping me out. Hoshiguma has punched through more canvasses than I can count."

Whoops. That had just come tumbling out.

"Ara, ara... It sounds eventful." And hilarious. Which just makes Reki being so mopey up here by herself that much more suspect. "I'm mostly getting my kicks teasing my classes with trick equations. Old habits die hard, and whatnot."

She let out another little sigh, tails swaying a bit. Couldn't keep avoiding the point forever... They didn't have all night. "But... are you alright? You seemed to be in poor spirits before I showed up. You know if you need to talk about anything, I've got ears to spare."
hipsterbane: (tender from the cold)

[personal profile] hipsterbane 2012-12-06 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course you would, Kitsune."

Caught. How to play it off? She wouldn't believe her if she just pretended everything was fine. Well a better lie had a kernel of truth in it, after all.

"It's nothing. The moon just reminded me of an old boyfriend. He was kindof an idiot but sometimes I still miss him."

The ends of her wings blackened almost imperceptibly, like Pinocchio's nose.
princesstenko: (shining gold)

[personal profile] princesstenko 2012-12-06 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...

"If you're going to lie, you need a better one than that... But I figure if you're lying at all, you really don't want to talk about it, so I won't pry. But I worry, you know?" It was hard keeping her maternal instincts in check. It was hard and no one understood.

Reki gives her an actual, genuine smile, a little embarrassed. Honestly, she thinks, i'm an aduuuuuult. Nosy, just like Rakka. Another burned bridge.

"You don't need to worry. But thanks. You're sweet." Genuinely, she thinks.

"Most people just find it annoying when I'm after them like this. Even Chen, sometimes." She'll take the sweet compliment, though, with a small blush, just barely noticeable. "It's awfully cold tonight..."

"I don't think so. But i've spent most of the life I remember in Lithuania and Hokkaido." She pulls her denim jacket off, wings folding inward so she can pull it over them. She hands it to her. Even though the chill raised goose flesh on her arms, she didn't mind it. Something about it suited her. "Maybe you've just gotten spoiled by all this central heating. How's the little urchin?"

"You'd think I'd be used to it, having lived in Nagano for so long. You know how the winters can get there," Ran was grateful for the jacket, her tails shifting as she put on on around front.

"Chen is doing... so wonderfully. She's making friends, doing well in her classes. She's not ashamed of who she is anymore. I've never been happier for her."
hipsterbane: (Default)

that's awesome, Chen

[personal profile] hipsterbane 2012-12-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
She remembered Chen, the shy but energetic little girl with the cat ears, tail and fangs. It was a cute combination, but that could almost be as obnoxious as looking obnoxiously ugly, with the way people felt entitled to violate your personal space, she knew from experience. And any evidence of mutation, no matter how kawaii, could make your life hell.

"That's good to hear. She's in good hands with you and Yakumo."

To tell the truth, Reki didn't quite get what Ran and Yukari's relationship was, though she had her suspicions.

Yukari raised her own wife Their relationship would probably remain that mysterious, really. Yukari spoke in riddles, and Ran never said more than what was needed.

"Well, to be honest, I think it's mostly this place that helps her. Yukari and I can only do so much. Being around her own kind... that's what is inspiring her smiles these days."

For Midori? A bit of both. The relaxed atmosphere is relaxing, which is probably the point behind it to begin with, but sometimes it feels just a little too relaxed, and the music is somewhat distracting. That she isn't much of an art person doesn't really help matters, but she'd needed to fill some extra time somehow and this class had appeared to be the easiest solution.

Whenever Reki walks by or one of the other students tries to sneak a look at her work, all of the light appears to escape from the canvas, masking Midori's project in a sheet of black to prevent it from being seen until she's actually ready to show what she's got.

Which admittedly isn't actually that much. Again, not much of an art person.

Reki catches a glimpse of Midori's painting from the side. Yet when she walks towards it to take a look, it blackens again, like a laptop with a privacy screen. What the hell.

"What are you doing." Sassy grey haibane.

[personal profile] lumokinetic 2012-12-06 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not ready yet." A simple enough answer. "I don't want anyone seeing it until it's done." Using her photokinesis to prevent having an unwanted audience? You bet.

She would have preferred a seat over by one of the corners of the room to reduce the need to do something like that, but the seat she had now was one of the last ones available as the rest were already taken.

[personal profile] hipsterbane 2012-12-06 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Reki raised an eyebrow, but made no objection. At least she was participating.

"You got it." She could call attention to her and humiliate her, but that wouldn't be what a good Haibane did.

She came back when the class was over.

[personal profile] lumokinetic 2012-12-06 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
While the other students filed out of the room, Midori remained in her seat. She didn't have any classes immediately after this one, and she normally used the spare time to pick something up in the cafeteria, but this was the best chance to show what she had done.

So, when Reki returned this time, the canvas was not masked in the same way it had been multiple times before earlier in the class. The image that now sat on it wasn't particularly bad, but it wasn't anything really mind-blowing either. It was a simple image of what looked to be a school's auditorium, which itself was done well enough, though the little figures meant to represent the kids on the stage could probably use a little work. The interesting part of the image, however, was the seemingly-random circles of blue, white, and yellow that were laid out on top of everything else.

Before anything could be said, Midori shrugged and spoke up. "Painting isn't really something I like, but since it's part of the course, I can't really argue against doing it." Considering she chose to take the class.

Just wait for her to figure out how this class ties into one of the possible uses for her power. She might enjoy it a bit more then.
