This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

[John is taking some time out to relax in one of the common areas, ignoring his homework in favour of an oldish PC game he doesn't remember packing.

Discarding the box to the space beside him, he settled on one of the couches with his laptop balanced on his lap as he clicks through the install options.]

[NETWORK]

[when he gets his webcam adjusted, he smiles a very toothy grin at the camera, raising a hand in greeting.] Oh, hey there!

Uh, wow, I didn't actually think of anything to say so hopefully this won't be awkward as hell. I'm John Egbert and I just moved here from Washington. Uh, I can mess around with wind and stuff. You could say I... kicked up a storm to get here.

[badum-tish! yes, he actually makes the noise. he sniggers for a moment.]

Heheh, jk. Anyway! It's great to be here and stuff!

[Vriska casually leans over the back of the couch to get a closer look at what's going on John's laptop. She has no regards for personal space what so ever.]

Wow, could you get any more lame?

[He swats at her playfully.]

There's nothing lame about the Ghostbusters!

[She swats back, less playful.]

Everything's lame about Ghostbusters.

It has ghosts, awesome tech and a catchy theme song. Jeez, you must have no taste.

[he keeps his fingers poised over the keys, watching as the steup nears completion.]

Me? No taste? [She snorts and rolls her eye.]

I ain't the one playing some game based on an old, campy as balls movie.

Then you're the one missing out on awesome ghost hunting shenanigans!

[She hops over the back of the couch and lands neatly beside John.]

Wouldn't it be more fun to oh, I don't know, do real ghost hunting?

I guess, but I think any ghosts we'd find here would end up being students or something.

Oh, so you don't believe in the real thing? [She raises a brow and grins a bit.] Obviously you've never been the abandoned factory just outside town.

Huh? Of course I do! [aaaand all of his attention has now shifted to vriska.] What factory?

[She does her best to keep her her grin on the more natural side.] There's this old factory just outside town. No one really knows what was made there but the story is there was a fire that killed most of the workers back in the day. At that time majority of the workers were children and it's said their spirits still haunt the place, looking for the one responsible for setting the fire.

Over the years the factory has switched hands, some have tried to rebuild it and reopen it but every time they got close to opening their doors again weird things start happened and people start dieing. So now it's just standing there, empty. They say some nights you can heard the roar of a fire and screams.

Oh, wow. [he rests his chin in his hand, looking thoughtful.] That sounds like a case unfinished business! And not in a justice-seeking, Patrick Swayze sort of way.

[Vriska simply smiles and nods. She doesn't understand what he means but really doesn't want to listen to an explanation. Then again she doesn't really have to ask since he's thinking about it. She gets enough right there from his surface thoughts.]

Guess so. But they say that the owner of the place locked the kids in so they couldn't escape the fire.

Why would he do that?

[She shrugs.] Who knows.

[he frowns.] They sound like pretty vengeful spirits. I mean, I can't blame them, I would be pretty pissed too if some douchebag locked me in a burning building.

[Vriska grins and gives a little laugh.] Yeah, probably. So, what do you say to checking it out? [She'd have to let Juri in on this to see how bad they can scare John.]

Well, yeah, but we need to be prepared.

[She raises a brow, choosing not to look in his head to see what he could mean. She'd rather hear the ridiculous idea.]

Prepared? How so?

[in the most serious tone he can muster:]

Flour.

[She stares at him for a moment before she nearly falls off the couch in a fit of laughter.]

It's a totally legit way to get ghost prints! [SIGH.] It's nothing Spengler-esque, but you can use it to figure out where the activity is mostly focused.
