This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the game opens, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

Action

[Dio is sitting in a common area, reading a book. Though his physical stature is imposing, his body language isn't nearly as off-putting. His focus isn't fully on the book, naturally. It would be best to approach with caution, but his demeanor lets on nothing of the sort.]

((Mostly a voice test.))

[Venom quietly entered the common room. He had just finished reading the required book his Literature class mid-term. It wasn't a terrible book, but it wasn't one he'd seek out for a pleasurable read. As he walked through the room, he spotted a young blonde reading on the couch. Something about the other boy intrigued him, but he wasn't quite sure why.

Still, far be it from him to disturb another's reading time. He put his book in his bag and continued forward, though he'd glance at the other boy every few moments.]

[Naturally Dio took notice of this, but nothing he did showed it. He calmly turned to the next page.]

You keep looking at me. Why? Unlike you, I'm not a spectacle. [Calm and cool, no real emotion behind it.]

[thought_takes_flight]

[The words and lack of emotion behind them made Venom stop. His wings flatten against his back in both annoyance and confusion. It wasn't the first time someone pointed out his additions, nor would it be the last.]

Sorry. I was trying to figure out if you're a new student or not.

[man_who_would_be_king]

[That reaction was just what he was hoping for. It was too easy. Dio closed his book with a sigh.]

Is it that obvious? I only arrived a week ago.

That explains it, then. I've seen several students come and go in the time I've been here.

[The bird sounded like he'd been there for twenty years. He soon realized the blonde boy had a familiar accent.]

...So what part of Britain are you from?

[Now came the question for Dio. Would it be better to lie about where he came from originally? Of course it would be. The less anyone knew about the first part of his life, the better.]

Buckinghamshire. [His accent didn't sound like that area, though. If Venom wanted to stay on Dio's good side, it would be best if he didn't mention that fact.] I take it you're originally from England as well, then?

[Venom briefly went into deep thought. The accent wasn't quite right for the area Dio mentioned, but it wasn't uncommon, either. He nodded in response to Dio's question.]

I was born somewhere in London, but I've lived all over the city. Foster system and all.

[Hm, this one seemed a bit more useful than others he'd run into.]

Better than some had it. [Not that Dio would ever tell anyone about how his 'father' treated him.] Let me guess, your attributes forced you from homes? Humans treated you like you were worthless scum, even though we're better than them?

"Better" and "Scum" harsh words.

[Sure, his life was pretty miserable before he met his most recent foster parents. Still, he felt resentful for sending him to the school.]

It's... complicated. I'd rather not divulge any further.

[This one could be useful, indeed. He wondered if he could exert his powers on Venom...It was certainly worth a shot. His eyes flashed momentarily -- something very easy to miss or not even notice. There was more to manipulating someone psychologically than just using a power on them; it took a special state of mind. To Dio, everyone was a pawn and to be used; it was the perfect mindset.]

Harsh words, but they're true, are they not? I understand not wanting to divulge any further, but...you and I are similar in some ways. My name is Dio Brando, I'm starting my first year of high school here. [His tone sounded gentler and somewhat kinder than before...It was all for show, of course, but he's an excellent actor.]

[For a very brief moment, Venom could have sworn he saw a flash of light. But as soon as he focused, it was gone. Soon, a warmth enveloped his body like an embrace.

He became a little more relaxed, and Dio's voice sounded considerably more pleasant.]

I see. It's nice to meet you, Dio. My name's Venom. I've been here for over two years. If you need someone to show you around, I can do it.

[Well, well, what a pleasant surprise. Dio smiled, though it was as false as all of his other niceness.]

Two years now, really? What good fortune that we met then. Your offer of guidance is appreciated.

[Keith on his break time, decided to spend it reading a book as well. Walking over to Dio he offered a friendly wave with a book on Criminology in hand.]

Is the seat beside you taken?

Of course a Jojo!

[Too friendly. Didn't these people know their place? That maybe trusting everyone to be just as friendly was a bad idea? Dio looked at Keith, then shrugged.]

Do what you will. [Meaning if Keith so much as did anything to annoy him, there would be pain.]

[airbrain]

Thank you very much! [He slide next to him and cracked open up his book. He would have stayed quiet oh yes, but he just had to open his mouth again.]

Are you a new student here?

[man_who_would_be_king]

[Of course. No one seemed to be smart in this place. Reading a book generally implied the person wanted to be left alone, not have small talk forced on them.]

Are you going to read or ask me questions?

[airbrain]

O-Oh yes, I just wanted to know if you were new here since I don't remember your face.

[He shuts up after that, going back to reading. He looks a bit like a dog with a tail between his legs.]

[man_who_would_be_king]

[He notices that look and narrows his eyes. How pathetic to see someone react that way immediately, not even a hint of a spine. At least Keith hadn't wasted Dio's time and showed that he was useless quickly.]

Is that your response? You're pathetic, no better than a worthless dog.

[airbrain]

[Dio's response sends chills up his back and he can't help but retort a little.]

H-hey that's not a very nice thing to say.

[man_who_would_be_king]

Being nice doesn't get you anywhere. [He closes his book and sets it aside.] Your sniveling is disgusting.

[airbrain]

[Keith grits his teeth, but keeps his calm.] On the contrary, being a nice person makes everyone around you happy, and that's what I strive for as a staff member of this fine institution.

[man_who_would_be_king]

You let others walk all over you in the name of being nice, don't you? You seem like the type to be a doormat and never stand up for yourself. Pathetic.

[airbrain]

No I don't. I simply like keeping everyone pleased! Whenever everybody is pleased, I feel at ease with myself.

[man_who_would_be_king]

You're still a doormat, then, and more pathetic than I originally thought. [A sneer came to Dio's face. He knew better than to start a physical fight with one of the staff, though, but wouldn't stop him from being verbally cruel.]
