This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before applying, and to see if things "click". Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info.

It was the scent of sulfur that got her attention first, followed by a thud of a something hitting the ground. Holding her books against her chest, the lithe princess backtracked slowly. She quietly peaked around the door of the gymnasium, keeping herself mostly hidden until she knew the situation. A small gasp escaped her as a dummy tumbled across the floor. Then her eyes focused on Kurt.

For the split second he was there.

Trying to keep track of him was exhausting; she couldn't imagine what he was like on the battlefield. How dizzying he could be for a proper foe. Is he this brazen in serious combat? she thought to herself. That smirk of his was all the answer she needed.

Lorna pinned her books between her side and her elbow as she came into view. Standing in the doorway, she clapped, smiling brightly. "Bravissimo!"

[Action/Danger Zone! wait no Danger Room]

Well... if you say I shouldn't worry about it, then I'm not going to.

Anyway, my name's Chika. What's yours?

[She catches his attention when she turns to him, but the way he keeps grinning, leaning his head on his palm, elbow on his desk, makes it pretty clear he's not all that interested in her pursuit for a quieter pursuit of knowledge.]

It's atmosphere! Atmosphere! Like game show music.

[What a remarkable way of exclaiming things even at whisper volume.]

The applause caught his ear, and without missing a beat, he spun in place to face the young heiress, his blade held low against his body as he gave her a bow.

"Ach you are too kind, my lady." He sheathed his sword as he rose, then crossed the gym to greet her more properly, a proper grin spreading.

"I did not know you had classes down this way. Come, I shall walk with you." He gave a look over his shoulder, addressing the fallen dummies. "Now, I don't want to see you causing trouble around here again, you hear me?"

"Sorry, sometimes they get a bit rowdy and need to be taught a lesson."

[Very nervously, she glances back to the teacher, making sure they haven't caught his attention. That would be the worst thing in the world, if she got in trouble for trying to stop the trouble. Lorna squirms in her seat before putting her green eyes back on the nuisance.]

This isn't a game show, it's our education, which you are currently disrupting.

[And she's sure they're supposed to be learning something very important right now.]

Hmm, indeed...[ Yukari is strongly approving of her idea to come to this school more and more as the conversation progresses. ]

Yet you locked yourself in to the restrictive schedule of a teacher. [ So there is some questioning of the woman's life choices, there. ]

[She looks up at the soft voice, wondering if she was doing something wrong. Her eyes dart back to the page, then back to the girl, not really certain what to do. She certainly seemed nice enough...

Her expression was curious, almost like she needed to be told what her own concern was.]

[Ky sounds a bit nervous as he still hasn't had time to work on anything regarding the fencing team.]

As he walked toward her, she fumbled with her books. It was a fight to keep her eyes focused on him or glance down to make sure she didn't drop any of them. Not a single one hit the floor, despite the best efforts of the Bronte sisters. Pressing them against her chest once more, her smile subdued.

"No need to apologize, kind sir," she told him reassuringly. "I understand that their kind is relentless and incorrigible. The Institute is very fortunate to have someone like you, who so bravely and swiftly takes care of the problem."

She began again in the direction of her next class, then softly added, "Just as I am fortunate to have you as an escort."

Prose - Gymnasium

Most children (and probably some adults) would have been floored by Kurt's performance. He had such energy, such bravado, that one couldn't help being mesmerized by his graceful technique.

Unfortunately, Venom wasn't like most children. He was assigned to take up some sort of physical elective as part of his curriculum, and he was placed in Kurt's training course. And the results were less than expected. The boy's attention was focused on his current find: a fantasy novel that took place in his native England. In his opinion, it was far more captivating than mere fencing.

My name's Reisen. I'm one of the doctors here, so if you ever get hurt, you can come to me.

[She takes the sound as yet another bird, though one that she hadn't heard before. Nonetheless, her attention remains on the leaves and the sky, interrupted at first by a passing insect... then a sound.

The moment she hears it, her body tenses a little, as she turns her head to face it. The sight of the strange, birdlike boy does not alarm her, but she eyes him carefully nonetheless.]

Is that so? Well, I must know who I have the honor of speaking to; someone with enough interest in fencing to start a team is certainly worth knowing.

[Oh, no. She spotted him. The boy really doesn't want to talk to anyone right now despite the fact that she's in his spot. Little does he know that it's not really -his- spot.

He reluctantly approaches the odd girl while keeping a good distance away from her.]

After tagging the last dummy, Kurt let his sword hang at his side, and turned back to the other end of the gym... only to see Venom reading. Shaking his head, he teleported across the room, landing next to the boy in a crouch.

"There is a time for all things, herr Venom. So tell me, what makes this a time for reading? If my lesson is not engaging, I would rather know than have to guess."

I came because the professor asked me to. Besides, I plan to have field trips to some of those places.

"Indeed," Robin answered. "We will be starting Greek mythology. Do you know anything about it?"

When Kurt appeared next to him, Venom had little choice but to pull his attention away from the book. He really didn't want to come back to reality.

"I don't find swordplay all that interesting." Though Venom would probably be engrossed if it was presented to him in book form... and if it was performed by a fantasy character. "Plus I never really cared for athletics."

"Ah, yes. Perhaps one day, they'll finally understand that the world needs peace, not trouble. And then, on that day, we may enroll our first dummy." He chuckled, following close behind.

"But of course, Fräulein. I would be remiss in letting the young princess walk unaccompanied. After all, if a band of malicious sacks of burlap attacked, what then? You shouldn't have to worry about such incidents." His hand rested on the hilt of his sword. "I would never let such an attack harm you. You have my word.

Ah! [His face brightens up.] Herr Kiske, a delight to see you again!

I was not aware you had a passion for fencing. What style do you prefer?

"Oh?" He leaned to examine the book cover. "And yet, the adventures you read about often feature daring feats that test the body's abilities, and duels to the death on a grand scale. Adventures like that, in our world, do not have to remain solely on the page, mein freunde."

He stood, rubbing his chin for a moment. "Perhaps... you may suggest how I can change my approach, then? You are a difficult student to gauge, I must admit, and I would hate to bore you with my antics. So please, what would be better?"

[internalizes]

[She watches his movements - careful, hesitant... he's not looking for a fight. He seems interested less in her, and more in where she is. Is she not supposed to be here? No, he doesn't seem to be admonishing her.

Eyes still on him, she shifts on the bench, moving a bit over to one side. She doesn't look to be leaving, at least not without some sort of understandable command.]

While I'm familiar with the main categories and their rules, I prefer sabre over all of them.
