This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. We also encourage you to check out the "!!event" tag on the IC comms to brush up on the story so far.

Are you the guy who got shitfaced with Geert van Houken once? [Zag is not normally good at knowing what's going on in the tabloids, but when it is about one of his football heroes having an episode, trust him to know. And actually that would be a reason to take this guy's classes, if it really was that short guy that the mags showed back then.]

Fantastic! Er- Just don't go off hunting things without talking to me first. Heck, they could be a student and that's a talk I don't want to have with anyone's parents. I also teach knot tying and whittling, but they won't improve your grades.

( Somehow Dave manages to keep his wings from flaring, they give no more than a twitch. Cool kids don't act surprised, after all. He hunches forward a bit over his junk haul and turns to look over at the, in his mind, intruder. Honestly, how did he not noticed him standing there when he landed? )

"Does that mean that we get to hunt more things?" He's always wanted to do that, and it sounds fun, but apparently you need to go to the Southern states for that if he understood what people said right... And you need an adult, or something. Uncool.

[Picking the glasses up and putting them on his nose.] How do I look?

The glasses weren't in a bathroom. ( He says that like that makes it all right that he took them.

He stares at the other boy for a moment before shrugging. ) Like a scholarly son of a bitch? Like a man that can just walk into a lecture hall and drone on about boring things and put everyone in the room to sleep.

"Always glad to find someone who appreciates café fuerte. As for the fish, they must have known I was coming. I haven't had a bite all morning."

Teemo took a drink of his own coffee and followed the young woman's gaze out into the sky. He wondered if something was troubling her.

"Do you come out by the lake often, Miss?"

[globaltaunt]

I don't know. It's something I'll have to look into. If so, it would be entirely extracurricular and part of a larger program on survivalism. Schools aren't normally fond of these sorts of things and it sounds like a lot of extra work.

"I like the forest at night." She said, a little wistfully. "But it looks like the sun's beat me to it."

She took out a mini sketchpad from her pocket and hurriedly scribbled something. When she was done she closed her eyes, passed her hand over it, and in that hand was suddenly a small, writhing thing, rough around the edges like it had just stepped out of the Take On Me video but perfect for bait. "Here. Maybe this will help."

[Tyrion simply smiles and holds his hands out to his sides in a neutral way.]

There must be a student somewhere at this school that I just saved from a horrible maths exam. I'm afraid the rest of you are collateral damage.

[One might imagine from the way Tyrion's expression hardens that he doesn't find this the most appropriate question to pose a new teacher. Then, coolly:]

The name doesn't call any particular memory to mind, but, under the circumstances, I suppose that's not evidence one way or the other.

"Nah, I like, can't really change any animals? I can like, imagine stuff into animals, though, a little." He could make his toys act real, or... well, he'd show him. The mirror shrank back down, then... it was round, right? So it ended up turning into a tiny turtle. He wasn't sure how real it would be at this distance from him, though--it might be mostly illusion.

"It only beat you by a little, but you look like you've been up half the night."

The scout nearly burnt his tongue, caught in awe at the sketchwork worm. "Isn't that amazing?" He seemed to be asking himself more than his guest. "I've never seen anything quite like that before." He slid off his right mitten and took the worm between the two small claws of his thumb and forefinger. He turned his wrist to feel it crawl around on the palm of his paw.

"And here I was going to ask if you spoke to fish." Teemo waddled back to the edge, reeled his line back in with his free hand and went about hooking his new bait.

She smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of her head. "Just a project. You know how it gets." Fortunately he was distracted by that demonstration of her power.

"Nope. The best I think I could manage is drawing up one of those singing bass things." Watching him, the words 'my god, adorable' slipped in a quiet whisper from her lips like a powerful prayer. Realizing it, she looked away, embarrassed, hoping she hadn't just put him off by being patronizing.

"Um, hello? I'm new here, and I was just wondering if...oh."

Kusuha stood in the Institute's main foyer, the absolute picture of frazzled, clueless new transfer. In theory, she was attempting to address someone in the throng of students for directions.

"Excuse...oh, I'm sorry."

The problem was, of course, that her power was acting up in the crowd, impressing deeply upon her just how impatient and in a hurry all these students were, and she kept stopping herself before actually getting anyone's attention. She doesn't want to bother someone who's busy after all, even a random middle schooler. They were obviously late for class. It was kind of annoying that it was end-of-year-exam time in America when her mental calendar was telling her it was the start of the new school year, but that was hardly an excuse to bother these nice people.

If only there was a teacher around. Or someone who'd at least pick up on the shy girl's distress even if she's trying hard not to act bothersome. Or panicked.

At the sudden change, Zag almost jumps but pulls himself together at the last minute, and a moment later he is leaning forward to prod the turtle.

"That's really cool! How long does it last?" And Feliks is one of the very, very few people that Zag would call cool to their face.

[An unfamiliar face pops up on the network. She gives the camera a pleased smile before she begins speaking.]

Hello, everyone! My name is Iku Nagae, and I am one of the new teaching assistants. I specialize in the sciences, particularly physics, and I've also been taught in fashion design. If there's any interest, maybe I'll even start up a class!

[She seems particularly pleased by that idea. Hopefully Tenshi doesn't go around telling everyone how horrible and outdated her sense of fashion is.]

If anyone requires help with their studies, do feel free to let me know, and I will see what I can do to help. I have at least a little experience with tutoring. I look forward to meeting you all.

[Iku relaxed a little as the class ended. She'd been asked to act as a substitute while one of the other teachers was sick, and had gladly accepted. A chance to pass on her knowledge was something that she really couldn't pass up, although part of her regretted it now. The students here could be a hassle sometimes, and teaching them actually took a lot out of her.

She sighed quietly to herself once the room had emptied. At least it was over for the day. She could retreat to her room and relax. Or maybe work on that new shirt she started on last weekend. She had to wait at least a few minutes though, to make sure no students had any questions or anything. You never knew if someone would come bounding down the hallway to deliver a late paper or to ask one more question about the homework.

As she watched the clock, Iku pulled a knitting needle from her pocket...and stuck it into the power outlet behind the desk. Immediately, she could feel the electricity running through her. Rather than a shock like most people could feel, to her, it was a rush of energy. Revitalizing. The lights in the room flickered for a moment. And probably the few rooms around her too. It only took a minute for her to recharge a little. No students had come in through the door, so she grabbed her purse and prepared to leave the room.]
