This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun! Feel free to consult the institute tour and dorm guide for setting info. I do if nobody rescues me! I could be lost in here forever!

[It's not even that big of a maze, the fact that he's managed to get lost in it multiple times would actually be kind of impressive if it weren't so sad. He isn't even a new employee or anything, there's really no excuse for this.]

Are you coming to find me? Be careful, this maze is a tricky one! Make sure you bring a ball of string so you can find your way out.

Just gotta avoid the Principal , He can be a bit of a ass sometimes ta everyone.

[She's not sure if who she is seeing is a teacher or student. But she isn't going to make a guess for now. But mentioning the book, she glances back to the book and picks it up. It's a thick book on Explosions...Basically a since book.]

Oh this? I picked it up before I came back here. At some point I wanna see how big of a explosion I can make. Although the gettin' away before the staff find out might be difficult.

Explosions, huh?

[That got her attention.]

You can't just time it so it goes off after you're away?

Yeap, Only problem is, I gotta be nearby and concentrate on what I was ta do to make it explode.

[She won't mention the other problems, because showing her weaknesses? Forget that one!]

I'd do it in the Danger Room but I still can't get past the locks ta get inside.

Sounds like you'll get caught, then.

[Well, if it's got locks, then it has to be something good, right?]

[Kosuzu rolls her eyes. Sometimes Reimu just doesn't understand what she's actually saying, but that's nothing new nor surprising.]

I'm not, I've got you two to look out for me after all. Don't tell me you're worried about me being here.

It's not exactly Tokyo back at home, you know? Of course it gets quiet rather quickly.

That sounds great, Marisa-san.

[Finished with the novella, the girl sets it down on the other side of her seat and reaches for the next book in the stack. Kosuzu pauses when her hand touches the cover though. It's not the right book. It should be Jane Eyre, but she suddenly has French going through her head instead of English. Glancing at her stack confirms that somehow the order is off and Persepolis is at the top.]

Looks like my books are back to walking off on their own. I can't say I'm not slightly disappointed... but I suppose I can enjoy this as well.

[Kosuzu readjusts how her glasses sit on her nose and takes up the comic collection. She's pretty sure of someone who might be involved in this little shenanigan. Yet so long as the missing book returns to the library before it becomes overdue she won't have any real complaints.]

You can keep this one after all. [ Came the aloof voice from around one of the bookcases. The gloved hand snapped the title shut and held it out as the woman stepped forward from her hiding place to place the book down with the rest. ] I did not anticipate it would be written in the first person. [ Yukari is not a fan of seeing things from the eyes of others, inside their minds. Not in fiction, anyway. ]

[Well, she wasn't quite expecting... that. But her parents had told her that Yukari liked to drop in on the shop as she pleased, more unexpectedly and unnoticed than any other patron, and that there was a possibility she might be here.]

Ah... Yakumo-san, isn't it?

[She tries to tone down the look of surprise on her face while she considered the other books in her stack. Old bookstore habits die hard and what not.]

Is there something in particular you're looking for?

[He would make this short and to the point. When the feed turns on, there is a rather tall man sitting at a desk. There was a light nod before he spoke.]

... Greetings. Ah'm ... Father Alexander Anderson, and Ah'll be yer Theology teacher. ...Guid day.

[Short and to the point! The feed ends.]

[Action]

[Don't mind the overly tall priest calmly walking around the school grounds, it's perfectly normal. He's making himself familiar with his surroundings, that's all. He's doing a very good job at keeping to himself, though he will talk to you if you so choose.

So why not walk on over and say hello?]

[ It would be difficult to mistake her look for anyone else. Not many Japanese women out of cosplay walk around with wavy blonde locks and those distinct, natural purple eyes. Yet, due to the eccentricities displayed by her family, everyone she met had always assumed she was wearing a wig and used contacts, even from an early age.

It's funny, really, the lengths society will go to in order to rationalize that what they are seeing is within acceptable standards. ]

Nothing in particular, though I have found something all the same. [ Being called by name narrowed down a few possibilities, but she still played the ignorant woman, for now. ] Someone that I do not recognize carrying knowledge of my identity. I wonder who that might make you, little girl.

[ She knows the answer, of course, but what fun is the game of life if it can't be played? ]

"Lost?" She parroted. "That's impressive. You know you could just hug one of the walls and you'd eventually make it out, right? I'd imagine it shouldn't take more than ten minutes."

Seriously, lost in the school's own hedge maze. That either required skill, or an incredible lack of attention. And this guy was...? No, it would have spoken volumes if this man was one of the teachers, and though Ashley's opinion of the place was still bordering on DO NOT WANT, she actually didn't want more reason to think less of it.

"Do you need me to lead the way?" Her tone here is completely deadpan. Not bothering to feign sympathy. Not bothering to show an interest in helping. Making the offer anyway, however, mostly so he can be not here to start screaming again at the next bit of shadow she decides to animate.

[Pamela is over by the hedge maze. She takes a deep breath, raises her arms and suddenly the maze grows massive within seconds. It even begins to take shape until it resembles a sphinx. Art, however, has never been her forte - that's science. She's only working on an artistic display because it's a non-harmful way to refine her control.

That's when she notices the priest. Well, an outside opinion couldn't hurt. Just because she thinks it looks like a sphinx doesn't mean that it's recognizable as such to anyone else.]

Pardon me...could I get your opinion on something, sir?

[He wouldn't have normally thought about it, but since John's post about ghost walks...]

That thing everyone keeps seeing in the maze... It's a student, right? There's no way it's something like a ghost or a monster!

...Right?

[Ashley takes a moment before responding, trying to decide if she wants to accept the blame immediately or let this drag on for awhile. She's well aware that some people have seen her out there—or rather, what she's doing out there, so a message like this one was pretty inevitable.

She settles on letting it drag on, to keep people guessing for a bit.]

It has to be a student. Ghosts and monsters aren't real.

[phew, someone who wasn't going to mess with him! Or so he thinks]

That's what I thought! But I wonder who that student is. Do you think they make actual things or just shadows?

[she might not like dealing with people, but the last thing she needs is to cause another incident here when causing incidents at her last school was what brought her here to begin with. Alhough...that previous school's incident was from creating her shadow constructs right there in the classroom, as opposed to simply discussing it on a school-operated message board, one where topics like this were probably pretty normal.

So, she won't mess with him here. Not yet, at least.]

Who knows, it could be both for all anyone knows. Actual things made out of shadows? What do you think?

[Give him a while to think about it]

I think that is cool. As long as they don't hurt anyone, they could have all the pets they want!

[There's a noticeable pause before the next response comes. Admitting that he thought it was cool caught her a bit off-guard and made her decide it might be best not to mess with him much further than just playing the part of a curious fellow student like this. That statement about pets also reminded her that she misses her cat, which is back home all the way over in Colorado.]

I'm sure we'd be hearing a lot more about it if they were actually hurting anybody. The faculty would be keeping an eye out and everything if that were the case, and the student would probably be in a lot of trouble once they were caught.

I guess that's true. But I still wonder why they're in the maze. That just makes it scary.

[He paused at the sound of a voice, and turned to look over at the... sight that was now before him. Anderson blinked once, twice, and then finally laid his eyes upon the speaker.]

Aye?

I'm trying to work on the finer control of my powers, so I was just curious if it looks like what I was trying to make it look like.

[She doesn't want to say what it is or even give any hints just yet, though. Mentioning what it's supposed to be defeats the purpose of trying to make it recognizable.]

So I was just wondering what it looks like to you.

Well...

[He took in a sharp breath and exhaled slowly. He was never good with this sort of thing. A lion shaped out of plants looked the same to him as a bear shaped out of plants. Though... he was pretty sure it was neither of these.]

It's obviously an animal.

[Dealing with younger children and art was easier than older students...]
